[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 17 points 5 months ago (5 children) As someone who hasn't played a pokemon game since Gen 3, what are they like these days? Have they totally jumped the shark? permalink fedilink source hideshow 10 child comments replies: [–] natecox@programming.dev 39 points 5 months ago (1 child) Terrible. They are terrible today. The last game pair they put out was an absolute joke in every regard. I recommend never giving them another penny. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 24 points 5 months ago (2 children) Sounds good, I'll continue to emulate Soul Silver and Emerald on my phone 😁 permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 5 months ago (1 child) DS generations are probably the last ones worth playing - although hard to emulate on a phone with comfortable controls, I'd imagine. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago I think I tried Platinum for a bit but yeah it was too cumbersome to play on my phone. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 6 points 5 months ago HGSS is peak Pokémon. permalink fedilink source parent [–] MisshapenDeviate@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 child) It definitely depends on how much they incorporate improvements from Legends: Arceus Z-A (one of the side games). Gens 6 - 8 were all so easy that a popular way to play each of those is with a difficulty mod, if you are able. Gen 9 tried to mix it up a bit, but as another user mentioned the performance on the Switch was so poor that it was hard to enjoy. Legends: Arceus Z-A has introduced several quality of life features that could be game changing if they make it into Winds & Waves, but we shall see. This could be the most fun mainline gen, if they do it right, or they could fumble it again. Edit: Looking back, both times I meant to say Z-A I said Arceus. Whoops. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago (2 children) Arceus turned the whole game into pokemon snap with balls. Or the safari zone. It wasn't good, unless you like playing pokemon games to catch every pokemon as fast as possible permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 months ago Not only that, Arceus is terribly empty permalink fedilink source parent [–] MisshapenDeviate@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 months ago I meant to say Z-A. My bad. Arceus didn't really hold my attention, likely for the reason you mention. permalink fedilink source parent [–] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 8 points 5 months ago Oh, yes. And the shark has a N64 number of polygons, and they tried to copyright the term "jumping the shark". But it's okay, because there's a horde of dumb people that will buy it anyway. permalink fedilink source parent [–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago (1 child) I've played every main-line and reboot pokemon game since they came out. I didn't finish Scarlet and Violet, it was so bad, also didn't finish Legends Arceus cause it was so lazy, and I've never played Legends Z-A. They've stopped putting in any amount of effort, so why should I bother to play them? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] chunes@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) My wife is a true blue Pokemon fan. Finished every game to date including all the DLCs, remakes, and most of the spin-offs. And even she couldn't finish ZA. Which surprised me because she loved Arceus. The straw that broke the camel's back was the fact that the game sets you up to expect 26 ranks to climb through, but then it just skips most of them. It was too lazy and disappointing for her to overlook. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Kobibi@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 months ago The Internet hates modern pokemon - and a lot of their critiques are valid - but imo they've been consistently fun and I have no idea why there's so much hate for the latest ones which were a pretty chill time permalink fedilink source parent
