Currently on the market for new audio hardware, headset and mic. Gaming hardware manufacturers often come with their own software that doesn't run well on Linux.

How do you decide what hardware to buy and you can be sure it will work with your OS?

I am currently looking to get Bluetooth headphones but still am unsure about the mic solution, a fixed mic on the desk seems so uncomfortable and a clip-on mic often also comes with it's own software or Android app.

What audio setup does Lemmy use with their Linux setup?

Hi all. I recently came to Bazzite after being a Windows snob for, well, ever. The single player games I play and Hell Let Loose work great, but I am struggling to get my racing sims to work. All the games are through Steam, howver I think it is likely to be the non-native support for Simhub, Moza and SimLabs Race Director software. Are there any sim racing Bazzite users here that could offer some advice? I have tried a few online guides via YouTube, but I'm coming up short. Any advice would be appreciated.

Patch notes in spoiler

spoilerThis is a hotfix release:

  • Fixes a bug where the steam desktop global virtual device would still be recognized in-game when wine-wayland was enabled, causing incorrect mappings and double input. Steam Overlay does not work in wine-wayland and subsequently neither does Steam Input since it requires the overlay for profile assignment. (It has always been this way since wine-wayland was added), but now with the desktop profile out of the way the controller input should behave the same as native wine expects it to when wine-wayland is enabled. This does not appear to be a problem with wine-wayland disabled even if steam input is disabled.

  • Fixes compilation failure on aarch64 due to an architecture specific code difference in the wineopenxr decoupling patch (this patch allows VR to work outside of steam)

  • Fixes compilation failure on aarch64 due to the new nvidia libraries only being buildable on x86_64 -- they've been disabled on aarch64.

GE-Proton11-2:

Note:

I did not have enough time to do thorough regression testing for video playback after making recent changes, however several games that had video playback issues in 11-1 have since been fixed. Many of the VR related issues have also been fixed. I wanted to get this release out because it contains important fixes for allowing Marvel Rivals and Diablo IV to run correctly.

Alright so I been daily driving Linux for a couple months now and it’s been pretty smooth going.
Today I felt nostalgic and wanted to play Dark Souls 2. And it absolutely didn’t recognize my controller. This is the first time I had such an issue with the Steam Controller and I didn’t know what to do.
Tried the usual suspects but nothing, and i had to give up. I tried googling, found no results, uninstalled. But I wasn’t happy, so I googled again and found the solution.
Apparently my Keychron keyboard is the issue? So quick exception added and it works. Still wondering why this isn’t an issue in any other game tho…

I just discovered this. Has anyone tried it?

Basically, you install it on your home server and use it to stash your DRM-free games, and then install the client on your PC, Steam Deck, whatever... log in to your server and just use it like your own, selfhosted Steam app. Any PC gamer already running Jellyfin, RomM, or other selfhosted entertainment-related server might be interested in trying it, if you do... please share your experience! I'll try it myself when I have time and post back here. If you know of any other alternatives, please share!

  • Self-hosted & open-source. Run Drop entirely on your own hardware. Your library, your data, your rules — all under the AGPLv3.

  • Rich metadata editing. Customise names, descriptions, and icons with full Markdown and image support.

  • Automatic imports. Pull cover art and game details straight from IGDB, GiantBomb, and PCGamingWiki.

  • A built-in store. Let users browse, filter, and collect games through a fully featured store.

  • Flexible authentication. Use simple accounts or hook into your existing SSO.

  • Native desktop client. Download, install, and play your whole library through a cross-platform desktop client.

Available for Windows, Mac & Linux (their web page lists a deb, their github repo publishes packages for all major distros and also an Appimage)

I have had issues like this before, a game I have played multiples times, out of nowhere no updates or anything just stops working on my lutris library and I can never fix it, do you all have some troubleshooting tips or know some troubleshooting guides?

Hi everyone!

I'm slowly ditching the Playstation ecosystem for Linux gaming, through a mix of GOG and Steam.

I know some people think achievements/trophies are stupid and useless, but I'm kind of addicted to them. At least it's better than being addicted to likes on social media..

I feel like they also motivate me to go further in games where there is no story and not give up when something is too difficult.

As moving from one ecosystem to another kind of meant putting my Playstation achievements behind, I was happy to discover https://www.exophase.com/ because it gathers all your achievements across many platforms.

As I like supporting what I use, I was planning on getting the premium account at 30$ for my lifetime.

But first, I wanted to know what the open source and Linux gaming community thinks about exophase as I don't want to support a project with a bad track record.

Thanks!

the tittle probably does not explain well but like as in when the website asks for a kind of app to open an app. I need it for these 2 desktop files:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Polytoria
Exec=env "WINEPREFIX=/home/shared/wineprefixes/Polytoria" wine "C:\\users\\epik\\AppData\\Local\\Programs\\Polytoria\\Polytoria.exe" %U
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true
Comment=The cross-platform launcher for Polytoria.
Path=/home/shared/wineprefixes/Polytoria/drive_c/users/epik/AppData/Local/Programs/Polytoria
Icon=ACA4_Polytoria.0
StartupWMClass=polytoria.exe
Categories=Game
MimeType=x-scheme-handler/polytoria;
[Desktop Entry]
Name=AmongUsHelper
Exec=env WINEPREFIX=/home/shared/wineprefixes/Amongus2 wine /home/shared/Games/AmongUs/AmongUsItch/'Among Us_Data'/Resources/AmongUsHelper.exe
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true
Comment=Helper to login to AmongUs
Path=/home/shared/Games/AmongUs
StartupWMClass=AmongUsHelper.exe
MimeType=x-scheme-handler/amongus;

But when I try to do it with lutris it just opens the app normally so that's inconvenient. Is there any way to do this?

Doing it yourself would mean visiting one of those build your own pc forums for help, and I think most people would rather kill themselves.

Edit: Check my comment on how I solved it. TL,DR: manually delete and reinstall the Steam Linux Runtimes

I got Forza Horizon 6 for my birthday a couple of days ago and beside some small audio issues it was working completely fine (1440p mostly high and ultra settings 60-70FPS) with GE-Proton11.1 and PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1

I've played it for nearly 9h already. Today the game is freezing at the first frame after the epilepsy and so on warnings.

I've tried different Proton Versions (Experimental, Hotfix, Official 10 and 11, GE 10 and 11), no launch args and some of the launch args that I found on ProtonDB, restarted the PC and verified the game files, all to no avail.

I've heard that the game was being difficult at launch, but it was working great, but now for some reason it doesn't run anymore.

Maybe one of you wizards has some ideas, would be much appreciated.

Distro: Debian 13 with KDE

Asus Prime X570 Pro MB

Nvidia 2080 Super 8GB with latest 610.43 drivers (from Nvidias Repo, Not Debians)

Glad to see some official Linux support. RuneLite has always been available on Linux, but using a Jagex Account required the Jagex Launcher, and Jagex Accounts will soon be mandatory.

content warning: rambling, pointless content below

I am one of those people that gets very annoyed with moderate buzzing generated by piezoelectric elements coil whine and tends to just ignore it if I can. My win10 ltsc desktop with an rx6700xt was buzzing like a cicada bug and it was SO annoying, but I figured it was an issue with the hardware and moved on. (It's really loud, and is triggered by mouse movements and the invisible windows scheduler. Something to do with interrupts). Well I booted into my forgotten linux distro that I use for testing and it's gone now. I use this computer exclusively for fitgirl repacks and steam games but now I am seriously considering putting linux on my main drive since I don't have to listen to that fucking sound.

Adding this to the list of things windows sucks at xD

I know Bazzite is the deck build for HTPC, and is in testing right now for the next updates. There really isn't any difference between in Bazzite or SteamOS in my understanding. Any advantages to change over I am missing?

Title. I always skip them and don't notice any detrimental effects at all. I used to let them run every time, but I don't want to wait 5 minutes for every patch update bug fix anymore

I’m trying out Bazzite again after about a year with CachyOS because I don’t have time for tinkering anymore and only play games maybe once a month or so. Anyway, I’m playing some Hitman tonight and noticed this lighting bug a few times. I remember seeing it in Cyberpunk 2077 when I was using Bazzite about a year ago too, shortly before I switched to CachyOS. Does anyone know what’s causing it and how to fix it? If it’s a big deal to fix I won’t bother as I don’t have much time for computers, and don’t want to spend most of that fixing a bug. I took a couple more pictures too, I’ll show below.

If it’s important at all, this is pretty much a clean install, I haven’t done any tinkering at all and have barely downloaded anything either. I downloaded a VPN, a password manager, and otherwise I think everything else is what came with the distro. I have the game running from an external HDD if that makes a difference. I played the game a couple months ago on CachyOS with zero issues.

Release of proton 11 based on wine 11

Hi everyone!

I had been a Playstation user since the first one and I own the fifth one.

After using Linux for years on weak computers for my admin, I decided to try Linux gaming in 2025 and bought a used LCD Steam Deck.

While I’ve been enjoying the Steam Deck, it hurts my neck and isn’t powerful enough for sim racing games.

Naturally, I was happy to learn that the Steam Machine was coming and was willing to invest up to CHF1000.- (~$1236) to get it.

Sadly, it’s not available to order in my country, Switzerland.

So now I have to choose between finding ways to order a Steam Machine or buying a prebuilt computer since I don’t want to source components to build something myself.

My priority would still be the Steam Machine, but I’d be open to alternatives.

What are your advices, what would you do if you’re in the same situation?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Edit and update:

Thank you all for your answers and useful links! You gave me some great advices!

In the end, I'll keep using a combo of Steam Deck and Playstation 5 for a while. The Steam Deck for almost every game, but more often than before docked to preserve my neck, and the Playstation 5 for demanding racing games or an eventual Last Of Us 3.

Then, around 2029, once my Playstation 5 is gonna be old and not upgradeable, I'll get a Linux gaming rig which is gonna be more powerful. At that time, I'll have a better disposable income, but I'd still want to pay around CHF 1000.- anyway.

It'll also allow me to fully emulate all my Playstation games which aren't available on PC, at least from PS1 to PS4 generations, and use these consoles as decoration for memories.

There is a game I am considering getting; it has been out for a few months now, and the devs are specifically blocking it from running under proton with a Kernel Level Anticheat which specifically blocks linux.

Folks on the discussion boards made the point tht it is technically possible to install windows for just one steam game, so I am looking for a guide on how to do that?

I've heard that if you don't activate windows, you can still use it, and if you get the LSTC (?) Version of windows, it is not so annoying.

Does anyone have a guide for how to install windows alongside linux for one game?

If we have a discussion in the comments about whether it is tactically appropriate to give money to a game corporation that requires windows, i guess we can, but i would rather learn how to install windows in the least annoying way possible.
