With the midterms fast approaching, three things are happening all at once. Donald Trump is escalating his war in Iran, the ICE killings have started up, and Trump just unleashed a huge wave of new global tariffs. All this comes amid another unappreciated dynamic. Due to Trump, the GOP has squandered its traditional advantages on three fronts: national security, immigration, and the economy. And everything Trump is doing right now seems likely to only exacerbate that.

Overwhelmingly, the swing voters who chose Republicans in 2024 did so because they were promised inflation would go down, and because they were promised this chaos and violence in the world would also be reduced. It’s not that these people were signing a contract that they were going to worship the MyPillow guy or anything like that. It’s that they had practical needs.

And when you see a president do things like prioritize a ballroom one day and then the next day actively raise your prices, you want to see your member of Congress stand up against it. And too many of these Republicans are in a cowed place where they aren’t doing it. But a lot of them are really going to wish that they had.

House Democrats who voted against cutting US aid to Israel received three times as much money from pro-Israel donors as those who voted in favor. (Median = 3.1 times as much.)

Democrats who voted against the amendment accepted an average of $348,239; those who voted in favor received $115,932 on average. All together, $34 million in pro-Israel cash was behind the votes against cutting aid to Israel.

Did the money actually buy votes? Or did the money simply help keep in office politicians who are comfortable ignoring voters?1 Neither option is very good.

The man at the helm of the Democratic Party’s main organizing apparatus is beginning to crack under pressure, according to insiders.

Nestled in a New York Times story about the Democratic National Committee’s dire financials was the mention of an incident between chair Ken Martin, a junior aide and a cell phone. Martin, who is contending with $2 million of DNC debt and a shrinking list of allies, reportedly threw his phone “in a pique of frustration” earlier this month.

Although the Times spoke with half a dozen people familiar with the incident, none witnessed it firsthand. There was also some contention over “how aggressively the phone was tossed,” and whether it was aimed at the desk or the aide. However, the incident sparked a formal complaint to the DNC’s human resources department.

Revoking an immigrant's citizenship has proven to be a costly and controversial practice over the years, but the Trump administration says hundreds of people deserve to have their citizenship stripped anyway.

The plan calls for ramping up the previously rare denaturalization process as a part of a broader immigration enforcement agenda, expanding a practice President Donald Trump started in his first term.

So far, the Justice Department has moved to revoke the citizenship of nearly 90 people since the start of 2025. By October, the government is aiming to file at least 250 denaturalization cases in federal court.

Under federal law, the government can ask a judge to revoke the citizenship of someone who obtained it through fraud or misrepresentation – such as using a false identity or concealing a disqualifying criminal record during the naturalization process.

At its current rate, the administration is on pace to pursue more denaturalization cases than any other in recent modern American history. By comparison, the Biden administration brought 24 cases over four years, while the government filed 102 denaturalization cases during Trump's first term, according to the DOJ.
