It gave me exactly what I wanted from the setting, it made me laugh, and it wasn't bogged down in bloat by trying to be any bigger than it ought to have been. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [+] propitiouspanda@lemmy.cafe 1 point 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 child) [removed by mod] permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] ampersandrew@lemmy.world 1 point 1 year ago It's quite nice, actually. Not all work on a game is equally worthwhile. Lots of my favorite franchises have devolved into games that grew larger to their own detriment. It doesn't often happen that one of these types of games scales back down. And it's not like there are zero big games that I like; Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3 are both 100+ hour games that are some of my favorites of all time! But unlike a lot of big games, they actually felt like there was something interesting to see for that full runtime, whereas a lot of big games actively harm their pacing by filling it with uninteresting bloat. permalink fedilink source parent [+] propitiouspanda@lemmy.cafe 1 point 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 child) [removed by mod] permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] ampersandrew@lemmy.world 1 point 1 year ago Hard disagree. I like Fallout 4 quite a bit, but I don't think there's any part of it I liked better than The Outer Worlds. permalink fedilink source parent [–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 year ago (1 child) Yeah I have to disagree, the first game was lifeless and dull imo permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] novibe@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago I personally loved it. I finished it quicker than most games I’ve played the last few years. I was actually surprised. It’s not a long game by any means, but still. I didn’t love that it started a bit more radical and became more lib over time, but I still enjoyed the writing and gameplay quite a bit. It’s silly fun, and it’s not pretending not to be. It does have a message, but it’s not overtly drab or serious. permalink fedilink source parent [–] ms_lane@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago Not sure how the first game was a snorefest - I genuinely had more fun in Starfield. permalink fedilink source parent
