Fruit evolved to mimic the smell of shampoo so people would rub it in their hair, helping spread the seeds.

Sadly, yes. Also, chocolate scented shampoo (whyyy did I even buy this, I really don't like smelling like chocolate - must have been hungry whilst shopping...)also doesn't taste like chocolate...
Why does 'sweet Thai chili' sauce in most restaurants taste like dishwater?
When lavender infused foods got trendy twenty years ago, the first time I tried some lavender pound cake I spit it out because it tasted like soap. But I kept trying it, lavender tea, white chocolate, cakes, cookies, coffee. Eventually, lavender soap started to smell like tasty treats.
Why doesnt shampoo taste like it smells though?
Basically everything else in the world does.
