I bet the lazy fucker likes to go on vacation with his kids from time to time. Imagine complaining not to be able to afford a house while basking at the beach every summer.

my brother just took his family on week beach vacation, it cost them about $8,000. How much avocado toast is that?

if you dont' take beach vacations for 5 years, that's about 40K, which is enough for a down payment on a house.

This has me torn. On the one hand 8k a year just to have a vacation sounds a lot. On the other hand, should we really be accepting concessions on our lives when we know the main reason we need to do monetary concessions is because the fruits of our labor get siphoned from us?

Maybe I'm just too poor to comprehend that 8k vacations should be the norm. Or maybe 8k is too much.

you should buy stock and not go on vacation and then in 10 years you can go on all the vacations you want.

delayed gratification is a hell of a way to build wealth.

So you read my comment and thought it would be good advice to tell me to do the very thing that siphons money away from the workers?

I don't want to build wealth, I want to live a fulfilling life and I want everyone else to live a fulfilling life. My fulfillment shouldn't come at the expense of others.

yeah, dude keep refusing to help yourself and then wonder why in 10 years you're still struggling...

newsflash, you can't built a fulfilling life without wealth. and you can't build other people's lives for them.

and guess what, your very existence comes at the expense of ever blade of grass you've stepped on, every chicken you ate, and etc. that's what life itself is. your little philosophy here basically concludes with 'kill yourself' but that too... will come at the expense of others.

but sure, sit around and don't invest and daydream for the next decade and in 10 years you will still have nothing.

OK, be poor and miserable forever then. good luck with that. and blame everyone else for your own personal choices where you actively refuse to invest in yourself. sitting around feeling your feelings isn't going to improve your life.

those of us who invested will be going on our 8K vacations and living in our houses that we own. and you can scream on the internet how we stole shit from you, or something and how we're awful people.

First of all, I'm not poor. I come from a poor family but I was blessed with a sharp mind and I've been lucky enough that my hard work has given me a rather good life. Due to my life experience I'm acutely aware of not just how incredibly privileged my life is but also how there are people who start from an even worse position than me and will never get to experience a life where they don't have to worry about whether they can afford to eat, pay rent (let alone own a house) and have clothes on their back. So yeah, excuse me for both having enough empathy to understand the struggles of others and enough privilege to not perpetuate it.

As for awful people, if there's a beggar on the street shifting through trash to find recyclable bottles or anything to make money and someone comes and takes some of their money would you not consider that kind of a person awful? And yet that's what investors do, not with just the poor but with everyone who works for a living. Every cent you make from stocks is a cent you take out of the pocket of someone significantly poorer than you.

I'm not going to tell you stop investing. You want a lavish lifestyle that's how you get a lavish lifestyle. All I'm doing is pointing out that your vanity comes from robbing the poorest of us. If you don't like being called an awful person maybe don't do awful things?

so you're privledged, but you want to like what, cosplay as poor and oppressed online because it makes you feel superior about yourself or something?

gee... that's not like the entire fucking issue with most leftist politics... and why the legit working-class/poor folks hate leftism so much... because the majority of folks in the movement are champagne socialists such as yourself.

just like all the celebrities talking about how they are suffering too during the pandemic... in their 20 million dollar mansions.

God the insane hypocrisy you are arguing from is just... mind blowing.

You are the same as me, but when I do it, I'm a horrible asshole, and when you do it, it's wonderful and good. And then you wonder why you can't build any 'solidarity' for your beliefs. BECAUSE YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE.

and yeah I'm clearly destroying society by returning my bottles and cans and STEALING the 1 dollar month in bottle deposits form some hardworking homeless guy... lol what.

dude, if you want to make the world a better place, actaully do it and stop consuming shit content online and deluding yourself into thinking your some hero of the oppressed. You are as about as heroic as Hasan is.

Jesus are you dense or what.

so you’re privledged, but you want to like what, cosplay as poor and oppressed online because it makes you feel superior about yourself or something?

Clearly you haven't been poor enough to what a privilege it is to be able to afford a house, food on the table, clothes on your back and some entertainment without having to compromise between them. In that sense I am privileged. I'm just not 8k vacation every year privileged like you.

gee… that’s not like the entire fucking issue with most leftist politics… and why the legit working-class/poor folks hate leftism so much… because the majority of folks in the movement are champagne socialists such as yourself.

just like all the celebrities talking about how they are suffering too during the pandemic… in their 20 million dollar mansions.

God the insane hypocrisy you are arguing from is just… mind blowing.

Legit working-class/poor folk hate leftism because they've been conditioned to believe leftism is bad and they don't have the time to learn what leftism actually is. When you explain them leftist policies they will almost always be in favor of those. And your framing of champagne socialist is one from capitalism that tries to undermine leftism by implying leftism does not allow wealth, which isn't universally true. If through your own labor you're able to afford a house, fancy clothes, fancy car or champagne then that does not contradict something like Marxism. But we're getting into the theory of something you don't know and don't care about.

You are the same as me, but when I do it, I’m a horrible asshole, and when you do it, it’s wonderful and good. And then you wonder why you can’t build any ‘solidarity’ for your beliefs. BECAUSE YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE.

We are not the same because what "wealth" I've amassed I've done so almost exclusively through my own labor. I've let money "go to waste" because I decided to keep it in my bank account instead of throwing it all into investment funds that would've almost tripled it in value because I know where that value comes from. Not in a million year would I seriously tell someone to rob from the poor like you have. And while I was blunt I didn't treat you like some horrible asshole until you decided to defend robbing the poor. Instead of calling me names just own up what you are.

and yeah I’m clearly destroying society by returning my bottles and cans and STEALING the 1 dollar month in bottle deposits form some hardworking homeless guy… lol what.

So apparently analogies go beyond your level of comprehension, I guess that should be expected.

dude, if you want to make the world a better place, actaully do it and stop consuming shit content online and deluding yourself into thinking your some hero of the oppressed. You are as about as heroic as Hasan is.

I'm not some hero of the oppressed. Me showing some spine and sticking to my moral code doesn't make a hero, except in your eyes. So you calling me a hero for that says more about you than it does about me.

Right, everyone other than you had it worse, you are the only person who has ever know what it's like to be poor.

    I don't take 8K vacations. I don't take vacations at all.

And then you re-iterate every leftist bullshit tlaking about about how we just need to 're-edcuate' the working classes... we must liberate them from themselves because they are so oppresssed...

and you wonder why they hate people like you, and why they don't support your policies... because you treat them like sub human scum and you think they must be 'elevated' to your glorious genius.

You don't have a moral code. You have a moral superiority complex whereby anyone who doesn't agree with you is less than you and must be 'fixed'.

you are every bad stereotype about leftism, especial your inability to see how awful and downright totalitarian what you are insisting is 'right' is. I bet you also are really mad about Nazis, and think we should mass murder anyone who is right wing because anyone who is to the right of you is a Nazi... and you don't at all see how this makes you a nazi yourself. We just need to kill the bad people and stick the oppressed people in camps to liberate them from their 'wrong think' and make sure they 'right think' like you do.

also buddy, my wealth is also massed from my own labor... i just chose to stick in it in the bank rather than spend it.

But keep going back with the 'no, but u' responses. Classic armchair socialist hypocritical bullshit you are slinging here, but hey what do I know, I'm an evil oppressor who is morally bankrupt and murders babies by having a 401K or something. lol

Next is the step where you tell me I have to cleanse myself of my oppression by giving my money to you so you can use it to fight for your moral vision of a fair and equitable future...

why don't I go donate to Hasan right now, give him $20 so that he can buy another Gucci bag while he waits for his multi-million dollar inheritance from his folks, because you know he needs that money more than I do and he certainly needs it more than some idiot uneducated working class person.

That's easy, you argue with your conclusion in your premise.

It's called begging the question, and it's bad faith way to interact with people. It's trolling.

and this entire exchange is you being bad faith, because well, you believe in hyperbolic nonsense that has no basis in reality, and is nothing more than a weird fetishization you have that investment is inherently evil. And just because you believe something, doesn't mean it is true.

investment is how society exists man, it's how any of us do anything together, but I would wager you also think society is inherently evil.

So you argument is 3 paragraphs of nonsense followed by a single sentence argument? But I'll address your low effort just as succinctly.

investment is how society exists man, it’s how any of us do anything together, but I would wager you also think society is inherently evil.

So before investing became a thing society didn't exist?

Yeah, plenty of economic history about that if you care to read up on it.

without lending and investing, societies don't grow. reason Europe was in a 'dark age' for 800 years was the fact the Church forbade lending and investing, and when they did allow it, starting around 1450, what happened? The Renaissance.

Also why the Golden Age of Islam was 800-1400... when Europe didn't allow lending and investing and the Muslim world did and vastly exceeded them in terms of cultural, scientific, and social achievements. The Renaissance in Europe was a direct result of the allowing of investment and lending.

Also why USSR and other 'communist' societies tended to have shitty grow and eventually economically collapsed, because they didn't have freedom of investment. Also why China decided to start allowing and then saw themselves economically exploded and lift 100s of millions of people out of poverty...

Also why many African countries are still places of abject poverty, because there is no freedom of investment allowed in them.

You think the investing you're doing today is the same they did in the 9th century? I thought it was obvious we were talking about stock investing (on the account of you telling me to invest in stocks), which didn't even exist until the late 18th century.

You can't just take some broad strokes definition of investment to make a point how a specific type of investing doesn't make you a bad person. Had you said "take that money and go to school" that would he investing in yourself and I wouldn't have an issue with that kind of "investment" advice. But that wasn't the investment advice you gave.

because you can't afford both. you have to choose your priorities. you can choose to vacation, or save for a home.

but we live in an economy where a lot of people are choose to vacation and then sit around being bitter they can't afford a home that they want when they spend all that money on something else.

oh, and further, they also don't support new construction because they think new construction is bad and drives prices up and if they can't have that new home nobody else should... which further restricts housing supply and drives up prices.

the point is humans are stupid and make bad choices, both short term, and long term, and they refuse to make better choices that would improve their lives because emotional gratification in the here and now is always more important to them.

FWIW, I grew up in a family who never took vacations but we were able to own a home, though it was rural and my dad commuted 3-4 hours a day to his job. If I point this out to people today, they basically lose their shit and say they'd rather never own a home if it meant they had to stop going on vacations multiple times per year, let alone live so far away from their job to find affordable housing.

In the 80's, a man could afford to raise a secret second family on his factory job while both of his wives stayed home raising 2.5 kids. Humanity has become waaaaay more productive since that time, yet dual income households can barely raise one child, if they are lucky. It's not that people have become lazier or anything; we're making more but recieving less for our labor. The people in charge have been siphoning more and more of the wealth we create while telling us the reason we can't afford nice things is because of bad decisions we make. Places like Walmart claim prices go up because of inventory theft, yet they keep hitting record breaking profits because the wage theft they engage in brings in way more money than they lose from inventory theft. It sure seems like these fat cats are forcing us to pay for their immoral decisions at the cost of us being able to afford nice things.

My point is that you make it seem like being unable to afford nice things is mostly a result of personal choices. In reality, the reason people struggle to afford nice things is because rich people are picking our pockets. The solution here is not to join the ranks of the fat cats, but instead to stop the absurd levels of thievery they are doing. This is not a personal problem that can be solved with personal responsibility, but a systemic problem that requires a systemic solution.

If you need an easily comparable situation, I think it is important for people to recycle and limit their waste production. No matter how conscientious I am, Elon Musk is going to overpollute our planet on the scale of a small country with the broad approval of our government. This is also a problem that requires a systemic solution because Elon Musk is only capable of creating so much pollution since he is supported by the systems our government runs on.

    because ultimately, it is.

You don't get to pick the circumstances of your birth, but you can decide if you want to make the choices to overcome them.

It doesn't guarantee you will, but if you systematically never attempt it, you definitely won't. And the issue with so many folks is they totally refuse to try. especially middle class white people.

Go talk to some fresh off the boat immigrant and ask them if they feel like life in american is pointless and hopeless and they will never improve their lot in life... oh right, you won't because they came here precisely to do that and a large chunk of them see huge improvements in their quality of life and often change children that are very successful because those children inherent their attitude and work ethic.

It has nothing to do with the existence of elon musk or climate change. Those are just excuses you use to justify your lack of drive. Which is fine, but you're making your own bed. Being angry that Musk was born with millions and turned them into billions isn't every going to do anything positive in your own life.

The solution is to get off your ass, improve your life, and get involved politically to push forward your political goals. But people dont' want to do that, especially on here. They want to sit around and complain about how everything is hopeless and awful and there is no point in ever trying because they have tried so hard and they aren't rich and it's not fair :(

I mean fine man, you want to whine about Elon go right ahead. Nobody is stopping you from doing that, but you using him as justification why you should also be a shitty person, is well, what shitty people do. Shitty people blame everyone else other than themselves, and usually pick a abstract scape goat to blame all their problems on. As if Elon dying tomorrow would do anything to change your personal life...

Why are you so accepting of rich people stealing from you? People like Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos or Bill Gates only became mega wealthy because of government funding they recieved. I too could be uber wealthy like Elon if the government freely gave me billions of taxpayer money with no strings attached. This is not a joke or hyperbole; our government has given Elon over $30 billion that he's pissed away investing in AI anime chatbots and silencing dozens of his baby mamas.

Doesn't that upset you? Doesn't it make you angry that your hard earned money is funding the drug addiction and lavish lifestyle of some halfwit from South Africa who hasn't worked a day in his life? Why is your focus on lecturing people with full time jobs wanting to afford a fulfilling life instead the Epstein-class who is stealing everyone's money to fuel their disgusting lifestyles? Why is your response to being stolen from, "just work harder so you have enough money after the theft"?
