I'm attempted to MAYBE give a try running my own community which one of them would be for Gen-Z. My reason is the r/GenZ subreddit is badly moderated where there's a lot of bigotry and also bit of Generation-bashing which leads to stupid dramas. It would be in somewhat the format of like both causal conversation and any community/groups that talks about their nostalgia. I don't want any elitism about literally the year someone is born, just seems like a weird thing to act self-righteous about.

How do you handle politics? I tried to occasionally read up about politics but I'm not as up to date as I find if I read too much of it, it does affect my mental health for the worse. One thing I want for sure is to not make my community into a "Nazi Bar" but I'm not sure how good I am for spotting Nazis unless it the most well-known dogwistles. I know there's going to some stuff I don't agree with but it how do I know it's a red-flag that needs to be addressed and when it is just them having a different view.

I don't believe in banning politics for it unless there's bunch of people would prefer it and have a valid reason. I have some stuff I want to talk about which I say is somewhat political and want to say it to other Zoomers like me and talk about it like Job-search, money etc. Last thing I want to do is make it taboo to talk about it and give them a safe space to talk about it without feeling like someone would dismissed them.

He is “just a meme now”, said some. Many others rolled their eyes, describing him as someone who still pops up online but doesn’t matter any more.

I'm glad (especially younger people) are waking up. I remember when I used to be in college like couple years ago, my classmates worship Andrew Tate which made me so uncomfortable as someone that is queer and knows he is homophobic. One of the many reasons why I dropped out.

I mean, I have seen online of people playing older Windows games on Linux, Steam Deck especially. Even though it most likely not as huge market compared to [insert new game], there's still fair share people that would buy the old game, even if it may be troublesome to run especially on Windows 10/11.

Refusing to use social media like Snapchat, Instagram & Twitter. Major downside is my generation is mostly using them so I know fewer Zoomers on the Fediverse but honestly, I would take that over me comparing my body to guy's fitness picture and feeling insecure about it. Also, I barely interact with people I know in my high school and I to some extent, wish to be forgotten from them. Some really have messed with my mental health, that's all I will say.

What if we made a distro called Doors as a replacement for windows, but don't call it a distro? We don't even call it Linux. We just called it Doors.

So basically what Google did with ChromeOS? (Being quiet that it just a Linux distro) Yeah, no. I prefer distro that is transparent that it is Linux and doesn't try to make out or as vocal that their still a Linux distro.

I been meaning to watch more videos on PeerTube which despite that I did subscribe to several channel, thanks to Fedi.directory website and FediFollow account on Mastodon, there's only few the videos that I watched and has interests me. Otherwise, I mostly watched stuff on YouTube as sort video I watch (Videogames and discussion about pop music) has more of it on YouTube as well, it's biggest video-sharing platform. I still want to give PeerTube a chance as I still believe that we need an alternative to YouTube.

Here's few the channels I watched on PeerTube for anyone wondering:

    • Veronica Explains veronicaexplains@tinkerbetter.tube - Love watching Linux related stuff
    • VWestlife vwestlife@makertube.net - Talks mostly about retro tech which I find interesting.

I have setup in my bedroom of a TV which eventually I want to get newer TV as one I have is old and also want to watch 4K movies as well as my TV is so old (made somewhere in early 2010s) that most streaming services won't work or if it does, it is sluggish. I heard OSSC Pro output 4K resolution as well as RetroTINK-4X CE which I want to use when I play on my PS2 & Gamecube. I wasn't sure if OSSC Pro still has issue with resolution chance where (especially in PS1 Games), the TV would take few seconds to change resolution instead of just load menu screen or game seamlessly

Before anyone suggest "get a CRT", I don't have room for it and that's even counting the CRT with VHS/DVD bundled in to it. Also, I live in shared household which my family doesn't care for CRT so if I want it, it has to be in my bedroom which is tiny and barely much free space. Maybe when I rent a flat, I might think about CRT but not right now. At least then, I have bit more freedom of the space where I put it and not feel too claustrophobic for me.

When I have read anything Android phone related on Lemmy, I often see comments talking about how they switch to Linux phone or tell people to swap Android with Linux ASAP.

What's the general experience like using Linux as your phone and is it any good? I remember watching video couple years about it and hearing about it and the lack of apps (at least that is made for mobile in mind) and wonder if that has changed or is it just good enough.

When I first brought it year ago as it the first Mechanical keyboard I own, I only just notice it's a US Layout when I tried to use it which I assume because I got it on Amazon UK, it would be in UK Layout. Note to myself, do few minutes of research before buying it online again.

I saw on 8BitDo's subreddit of someone contracting customer service if they sell UK-layout keycaps which they said no. I did tried look one identical to it but it both different colour and also in US-Layout.

Before tells me "Just use US Layout", I tried it and still feels unnatural to me. I really don't want my keyboard picking up some dust but if there's isn't any keycap that both looks identical and in UK, I'm considering maybe getting Keychron Keyboard at some point.

I am interested of self-hosting my own instance but one the issue I have is:

    • Price for renting server and buying domain name. Mainly, I have low income.
    • Unsure if it be single-user instance or if I want multiple people on my instance.
    • If my instance is for multiple users, if I be the best fit for moderation as well, pitching it to non Fedizen (whatever you call people that use the Fediverse) as well as the theme of the instance as it would effect my Fedi software of choice (eg. Friendica, Mastodon/Glitch)

I just worried that I try just do it immediately without planning things out or have whatever things in mind which might otherwise help me know what's the best choice and not be upset that I wasted my time and money on something that didn't work out for me.

I'm all for advocating for people to stop using [insert any online platform that is moderated by far-right or a bootlicker to one]. My issue is that it feels for some the alternatives that it feels like someone just search alternatives to... on Google without actually using it.

The worst one is the one who suggest to use Odysee instead of YouTube. My experience from using Odysee is that it has way too many far-right videos and content creators and I can easily watch video that is pro-Nazi. I hate YouTube's censoring creators where it does effect creators who trying to discuss about Sexual Abuse, domestic violence, suicide and had to say other words like "unalive" which makes it seems less serious than it actually is. If they tried to say the actual word instead of censoring themselves, they will either get demonized or even have their video taken down and had to nag YouTube support team to put the video up again as they are spreading awareness.

PeerTube is closest one where it could be an alternative but not exactly a replacement where main problem is lack of content that I want to watch as sort video I like to watch (video essay, music video usually by mainstream artist etc.) is only available on YouTube. It then also encouraging people I subscribe to to try out PeerTube, even if it as a mirror which they are often active on Twitter which no offense, I can't be asred to make a Twitter account to try to ask them to join one the PeerTube instance which I doubt they would do.

This is coming for person that tries to advocate people to use Mastodon instead of Twitter which that failed and I'm just tried to try "be the change that [I] want to see". I know people who say that don't mean it but it feels like some saying I'm being too lazy for not have convert someone to get off the platform and it's super easy when it is not.

Sorry if this come off across as ramblebly but I feel like I'm going crazy at times and don't exactly fit-in despite hating what places like YouTube, Reddit and Twitter has become.

    • Flare Jeans - I find most jeans bit uncomfortable to wear and hate how tight it feels around bottom part of my legs. Thought I tried Flare Jeans which could only find one for women the shops near me so I tried them and it feels much better. One thing I don't like is the short pocket which is insane men's trouser have larger pocket where I can store my phone without it hanging out. Someday, I do need to try learn DIY so I can sew larger pockets on my jeans lol.
    • Crop Top - I blame Britney Spears but I do find crop tops really cute. Wish I have more self-confident to wear it more but sadly the area I'm in is highly homophobic.

I know the two in the past is seen unisex (any clothes is unisex if you don't give a damn) but it seems nowadays, it associated to only women's fashion.

I hadn't have the best interaction with people and I have made friends that I felt wasn't great for me as well as gotten out an controlling relationship a year ago. It has eaten up my self-esteem where I am scared to actually talk to anyone in real life as I worried similar thing would happen.

I know I need to push myself out there which is easier said than done. One thing I tried to do is if I am in a decent mood, I got to one the social group which is on like every month as well as join in to my friend's karaoke night and sing terribly. Sadly, I'm not Mariah Carey.. 😔

So I have taken slow steps up which is better than taking none I guess but I got long way till I feel confident in myself where I stop worrying about everything as it really does held me back in general.

I have always wanted to make my own neighborhood from scratch as I tend to play Pleasantview but the sort of lots I want to make will make Pleasantview squish. And another factor is majority of pre-made neighborhood are based in America (beside Veronaville as it build as Tudor-style based as the household are based on William Shakespeare' play) which I want to play neighborhood that based around modern Britain as well... I live there.

The only issue I have is:

    • How the hell do I make an terrain from SimCity4 where the terrain screams "British suburbia" and not another generic neighborhood. Not wanting to make 1:1 of a real-life town, but just gives off British vibe
    • Working out road layout within Sims 2 limitation. Despite you can import .sc4, you can can only use Roads (not Street road, One-way Road etc) and it can't be diagonal, otherwise the game won't render that road. So I had to use the "staircase" method to get rough curve
    • For making household, what story would they have as well as their job or if they own a business and which one. For me wanting to open a Salon or anything that sells item beside grocery, it required a Sim to open up a business. It not needed but it makes it more immersive when playing another household and if I feel like they need a haircut, I won't Change Appearance from their mirror and instead take them to salon and pay for haircut.

I might need to try look various places online and use Pinterest which I find alright for planning out the rough aesthetics. I probably should try find other media to get inspiration so feel free to suggest me any which gives me an excuse to take a break from spending HOURS on SimCity4 trying to make both terrain and road layout.

There's something so magical about the old-school Tomb Raider games and I love that feeling of that I have explore all by my own as well as the platforming which felt later games from Tomb Raider Legend streamlined it where I missed that that platforming from A to B was a puzzle to execute.

I tried Tomb Raider 2013 but just felt underwhelm by it and dislike how it where it take/district the controls to make the game "cinematic". Surprised I didn't like as I thought cause I'm a Zoomer, I would like newer games much more compare to the older one.

Any 3D games like Core Design's Tomb Raider that has heavily emphasis on Platforming would be nice to hear as I find it difficult to find game that is identical to Tomb Raider instead of Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie. Both great games but completely different to Tomb Raider
