Has anyone set up file-sharing, especially torrents or something similar, over freenet? It reminds me of reticulum in that it's supposedly decentralized, but it looks more technically developed (i.e. not written in python).

My understanding of torrents is that they go to tracker locations, which I don't really understand but seems like a centralized node of some sort. So, I assume torrents themselves can't be ran through freenet, but is there something analogous we should be looking at?

I apologize if this is a dumb question I don’t have much knowledge in this area. I just want to make sure I'm staying on top of the relevant technologies.

I saw a big bunch of posts around here discussing the use of VPNs or i2p to torrent. As I seldom download something, I wasn't too much worried about using my IP. Now I'm using an arr stack and that kicked me in the way to protect my connection a little better. So, what are you all using nowadays for your torrenting?

I've been hearing about an Xbox 360 softmod that runs off a flash drive. I have an Xbox 360, and I have an iPhone, and an Android phone, and I have Macs, so it should be enough to put the softmod on a flash drive and stick it in the 360, right? Well, the instructions I'm finding (on various YouTube videos about it) all say I have to run a .EXE file (in Windows). The only access I have to Windows is at work, and we can't bring flash drives in, or run executable files there (that aren't approved). All this sounds real sketchy anyway. So, is there any truth to this softmod or are various YouTubers (none of them well known, trustworthy sources) just trying to get people to install ransomware on Windows machines?

Is there an actual package that can simply be extracted to the flash drive?

Just wondering if anyone here knows anything about it.

Edit: For what it's worth, my interest isn't even piracy, per se. The disc drive on the 360 took a shit on me, so I figure I can load the games we have on the flash drive. We're actually only concerned about one, Rockband 3, because we have a shit ton of custom songs for it. We could play via the disc if the disc drive worked. So I'm thinking we find the disc image online, if the one already on the flash drive isn't good enough (it was "ripped" or whatever using the Xbox itself, you know where it lets you copy a disc to the internal drive or a flash drive, and play it off that, but it checks the disc first. Furthermore, there's a mod for Rockband 3 called Rockband Deluxe that adds some nice QoL features. So basically we're thinking of making it a dedicated Rockband player.

Any other Xbox games I'd just play on my fully working Series X. Rockband 3, however, is not backwards compatible, and Rockband 4, which was released for the XB1, doesn't support custom songs. So the hundreds we've bought are in there and playable on the XSX. We really just want the 360 for customs. Though, I suppose it would be cool to find a download with all the DLC ever released, and just sort out the stuff we don't want.

Hi I'm trying to get off of YouTube TV because they keep losing streams to other services like Amazon and Peacock. I pretty much only need live TV to watch sports. I regularly watch NBA, NFL, EPL and Champions League with occasional views for NHL and Tennis.

Does anyone know a reliable IPTV service that could fit my needs? Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking about getting a handheld as I'm spending more time away from my house and PC. I don't want to get buy hundreds of dollars of games to go with it.

3ds xl / switch / Steam deck / Legion?

There seems a lot of options and all have plenty of games to them. Is there an obvious choice that I'm not aware of?

Preface: I wrote this tutorial for two reasons. More people should learn torrenting, and I want people to listen to my album.

What is torrenting?

Torrenting is a distributed file sharing system that basically lets you have really fast upload and download speeds if there's enough people. All the people sharing amongst each other is called a swarm. There's three types of users of a torrent that are commonly referred to: seeds, peers, and leeches.

Seeds - These are the people that have the whole file and are now sharing it with other people.

Peers - These are people that are uploading and downloading the file. They have a partial version of the file, but because torrenting shares files in pieces, they can start sharing pieces once they have them.

Leeches - These are people that download the file and then just turn off their torrenting program and don't share. Don't be these people.

How to start

I'd recommend starting with qBitTorrent. It's easy to use, and right now is the gold standard in torrenting software, as far as I know. Additionally, your OS might have an actively maintained package for it, so look for that first! You'll also need a VPN. I'm using Mullvad VPN for this guide.

Opsec

One thing to remember about torrenting is that it is a peer to peer network. This means that your computer will be directly connecting to others. Other computers will see the IP address that you're torrenting on. Commonly, ISPs will detect torrenting and I've heard of users being sent legal letters telling them to stop torrenting copyrighted content. If you're able to mask your IP and tunnel your traffic somewhere else, your ISP should not pick up on it. I'm basically describing a VPN.

This is the most important step.

Make sure you configure qBitTorrent to tunnel all your torrenting traffic through a VPN. I have no idea if you can split traffic, but honestly I wouldn't risk leaking traffic. When going into qBitTorrent, make sure to navigate to Tools > Preferences > Advanced. From there, one of the first options lets you choose a network interface. If you are using Mullvad VPN, it should show up as a network interface.

If you don't do this, you can leak traffic if you turn your VPN off before qBitTorrent, or if there's some I/O error between qBitTorrent and your networking and it just switches to non-VPN networking. This ensures that all traffic goes through your VPN. This also means that if you turn your VPN off while torrenting, qBitTorrent will not be able to access the network because it's restricted to VPN traffic. Sounds simple, but I speak from experience.

Actually torrenting

In order to actually torrent, you need a torrent file or a link. This tells the program where the swarm is. I'm providing a torrent file here. It's an album that I made recently, but it's completely free and meant to be distributed via torrent! For qBitTorrent, there's a plus sign in the top left. Once you click that, you can choose a file and start torrenting!

Make sure to properly configure the path that the torrent/s will be stored. It's easier to keep torrents separate from downloads. Once you're done downloading a file, make sure to keep your program up! You can see what your torrenting ratio is (how much you've contributed back). Different communities can have different guidelines for what an acceptable ratio is. Make sure you figure that out before closing your torrenting program, lest you become a leech.

This is back when it was common (like 90s to 2000s) before smartphones were commonplace, they would sit in the back row equipped with a camcorder plus tripod or they are the ones recording the movie live inside theater. It's known as CAM (the resolution is shit along with crap sound quality), you would also spot silhouettes of movie goers obstructing the screen at times (heading to the bathroom or walking back and fourth).

You can also hear people talking throughout since the pirated footage is recorded inside theaters, if you watched CAM footage: have you spotted your own silhouette not realizing you're inside whilst a pirate was recording? At the time, that footage would've been burned onto DVD being sold at the street before official home media release. Have you also purchased a pirated copy from someone in which isn't the official release at the time?

Goal: Non-technical native TV experience with streaming, live TV, live sports

I recently bought an Onn 4K Pro directly from Walmart. I've set it up with the following:

• Downloader (for VPN and other apps)
• CinemaHQ (for live TV)
• Stremio/Nuvio (for streaming shows and movies)
• TFlix and Norofire (for live sports)

I also have an old laptop running Linux Mint hooked up to my TV. I bought an integrated keyboard and mouse to navigate, where I use fmhy.net to stream stuff, mostly TV/movies and live sports (haven't found reliable live TV channels).

Question: Is a streaming box better, or old laptops?

I want to set this up so my family can use it too, so it needs to be as easy and non-technical as possible. I want to give family members boxes or laptops that they can easily use with this setup (or something similar).

This is actually why I started using Nuvio, since you can set up profiles and the configuration carries over to every device (so I wouldn't need to set up 5+ devices manually).

I would think that the Onn boxes are best for this, but I have several concerns:

1. You need a Google account to set it up.
2. Google is cracking down in ways that would affect "sideloading" particularly on Google devices (Onn runs Google TV).

If I can continue finding some old hardware (Thinkpads, Macbooks) for ~$125 or less, is it worth it to have an old laptop instead of a brand new streaming box? What do you think would be a good price range for hardware in this case? And how old is "too old"?

Pre-Requisites:

Install Decky Loader:
- Download and install Decky Loader on your SteamDeck.
- Enable developer mode in the Decky Loader settings.

Install HV Decky Plugin:
- Download HV Decky plugin zip file from CSRIN.
- In gaming mode, press the 3-dots button to access Decky Loader.
- Select “Developer” in the settings menu.
- Choose “Install Plugin from Zip File.”
- Browse and select the HV Decky file you downloaded, then install it.

Install Modded Proton:
- Download the latest modded version of Proton, currently, GE-Proton11-1-LinUwUx, from CSRIN.
- Run the provided command from the forum in the Steamdeck’s konsole to install the files.

Installation Methods:

Accela Method:
- Verify the latest build supported by the HV crack.
- Obtain the manifest and LuA files for the game (Hubcap, Ryuu, etc.)
- Download the game using Accela by dragging and dropping the zip file.
- If the latest game build is supported by the HV bypass, follow the normal process of adding by appid, since that would download the latest files.

Repacks Method:
- Download the game files from a trusted repacker or site from the megathread
- Install the game using the downloaded files.

Applying the Bypass:

Download DenuvOwO HV Crack/Bypass:
- Obtain the DenuvOwO HV bypass files from CSRIN or if available through a repacker site. (I recommend directly from Rin forum)
- For Linux (Steamdeck), only copy the contents of the DenuvOwO sub-folder to the game folder.
- Locate and modify the “autoload” setting in the DenuvOwO.ini or reflex.ini file to ‘false’ and save it.
- Delete Steam_api64.dll and steam64.dll from the game folder.

Setting Up HV Decky:

Configure HV Decky Plugin:
- Enter gaming mode and press the 3-dots button.
- Access Decky Loader and select the HV Decky plugin.
- Click “Disable UMIP.”
- Click “Download Module” and and when completed, then click on “Start Module.”
- In the manual tab, ensure all build environments are in a “Ready” state.
- If not, click “Install Steam OS Build Dependencies” to resolve any missing items.
- Click “Test HV” in the auto tab. A popup confirming bypass success should appear.
- In the game tab, check or select the game you downloaded and applied the HV bypass to.

Running the Game:

Execute the Game:
After completing all previous steps, you can run the game.

Additional Notes:

- Ensure your compatibility settings are configured to use the modded Proton version.
- In the event that you Restart or turn off your device, you will need to start the module in HV Decky again on reboot to play the game.
- Check the game forum on rin for updates to reflex or DenuvOwO files if the game starts and closes immediately.
- If encountering a hash mismatch error for the exe, download the correct exe from the rin game forum, paste it into the game folder, and try running the game again.

Are there ways to import Stremio plugins locally? Or any other ways that insure these plugins work without reliance on a valid website?

Is there some way to have age rating or parental controls in the basic version of Streamio so that the kids don't end up getting SpongeBob intermingled with House of the Dragon?

I've tried Nuvio also, and while that gives a pin / user accounts, it doesn't stop kids from altering settings etc.

Ideally, I'd want a system like Jellyfin has. Is that possible?
