The mass-extinction causing orphan-crushing torment nexus (MECOCToN) is a tool, just like other tools we use. And it's clearly a useful one.

There are other questions around MECOCToN (like if we should be complicit in killing billions of people, and making more than 50% of genera go extinct, via its CO2e releases and water use), but "is it useful" is no longer one of those questions.

The Debian project has been and will continue to be about the technology.

Sure, the people who use it is important and often a very motivating part of the project, but in the end that's a side benefit, not the point of the project.

In the Debian community we do open source because it results in better technology, not because of ethical reasons.

And so we make decisions primarily based on technical merit. Not fear of causing a mass extinction.

If you don't like gross horror, I'd recommend skipping 4.02 "Home". While it's a favorite of fans of certain types of horror, it made some people completely stop watching the show.

If you decide to stop watching before season 3, I'd recommend still watching Darin Morgan's episodes, which are very funny. Especially:

• X-Files 2.20 "Humbug"
• X-Files 3.04 "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose"
• X-Files 3.12 "War of the Coprophages" (by far my favorite, tho Darin's least)
• X-Files 3.20 "Jose Chung's From Outer Space"
• Millennium 2.21 "Somehow, Satan Got Behind Me" (the spin-offs Millennium and The Lone Gunmen aren't very good, but this episode is amazing).

There are 3 more (M2.09, X10.3, and X11.4), but I wouldn't recommend watching them.

I don't know of anyone who actually does that at home tables, because 3d4+3 is statistically less likely to give the minimum (or maximum) damage than (1d4+1)*3.

It probably works on most people, but there's such a small number of ethical products I buy, that it just reminds me how sociopathic these omnicidal capitalists are and that I should try to buy less things.

The two most effective legal things you can do to help with climate are eating vegan and not having children.

According to Wynes et al. 2017 PDF (graph), while it's true that not having children is by far the best thing to try to prevent the anthropogenic climate cascade, veganism is only the 6th most important thing.

Being:

• car-free,
• flight-free, and
• fossil-fuel free for energy,

are all more important than being vegan.

When not just looking at anthropogenic climate, but ethical living overall; then yes, veganism is the 2nd most important thing after being child-free, because animal husbandry and fishing result in the torturing to death of 2-6 trillion fish per year, and on factory farms the enslavement in torturous conditions of 1-3 trillion fish and billions of non-aquatic animals every year.
