What would happen if you asked an Amish about living without phones or Internet? Our memory and attention span has already been going down the crapper. I think humanity's been doomed since the invention of tools and passing on development. I feel guilty of it at times when spending money on new, shiny, unnecessary hardware.

Mind you, AI is exceptionally bad, but that's mostly because of the bubble going on, making it affordable for masses when only the rich (unfortunately) should afford it. And the rich have been brainrotted since ancient Rome, or earlier.

I only read parts of Unabomber's manifesto and don't remember much. I think most of it was either obvious already (but maybe spoken fancier) or I disagreed.

That's a point against Sony, specifically being a closed system. Having to buy games on Sony's store requires getting a PS5/6 in the first place, but why get one when PCs are open, and usable if Valve goes rogue too?

Besides what others mentioned (Valve being kept in check, barely, and offering more service as a platform), I think Sony can't afford to do what Valve does, because on equal footing they lose.

Sony saves you a bit of money on the hardware purchase, a small benefit if you buy a lot of games. Maybe some exclusives.

Steam lets you mod the game, play it on whatever device you want (PC now, PC you get in 10 years, Deck, Windows, Linux, likely even some Android devices in the future), and twink the settings to whatever you want, for whatever resolution, quality, or framerate you want. (Edit: also, your device doesn't become a useless box if Valve becomes evil)

Physicals and exclusives are just about the only thing consoles have going for them, and Sony just lost one. (Oh, and they lost couch gaming too, because SteamOS is opening up)

I'm assuming what they meant is that it's possible for PS4 era or indie games, which is probably half of what they expect the intended market (me) to play. (Unless it can't do that for PS4 games either, in which case, oof)

That's my use case for 4k anyway, like Switch 2 exclusives - which ALSO run at upscaled 4k 60fps, and some people market it as such, but nobody expects NS2 to do that for PS5 ports. (As pathetic as comparing the Machine to Switch 2 is)

The problem is Valve using "all current releases" and "4k60fps" very close to each other...

That's... new. I've been injecting GBA roms the whole time, which takes some more time to setup than just copying files.

But I only learned yesterday that L+R+Select resets the current 3DS game instead of having to relaunch it, and last year that Select+Start launches DS games in native resolution.

This damn thing, man. Keeps on giving.

3DS, no contest. Even factoring in PCs, Steam Deck is a bit behind.

I'm past the phase of daily playing it, but still don't usually leave home without it, and I feel I'm only halfway through games I might be interested in after almost a decade. I just found Professor Layton this year.
