Joe Biden has launched one of his most scathing attacks yet on Donald Trump’s record of racism, suggesting that the former US president would have acted differently to the January 6 2021 insurrection if was led by Black people.
The remarks, at a dinner hosted by a civil rights organisation in a critical swing state, pointed to an intensifying battle between Biden and Trump for African American voters ahead of November’s presidential election.
“Let me ask you,” Biden said during an address to an NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) dinner in Detroit. “What do you think he would have done on January 6 if Black Americans had stormed the Capitol?”
There was a collective gasp and murmur in the cavernous convention centre, where an estimated 5,000 guests had gathered. The president insisted: “No, I’m serious. What do you think? I can only imagine.”
it would never have happened in the first place. if roles were reversed, there would have been adequate forces in place to prevent it from escalating.
Remember, Trump made sure to have a relatively light law enforcement presence in the capital. There were no unscalable barricades present. there was no call for the Nat Guard- despite assurances they were ready to go, and that was trump's call.
the entire insurrection was planned by people who wanted to put trump back in the white house by any means necessary. I don't know that it was entirely planned by trump- he's a moron- but it was certainly done with his cooperation.
In Detroit a leader of the Pro-Palestinian protesters said "This community will be the community who unseats Joe Biden. … A president who has fostered an atmosphere of hate against our community."
Just that ignorance of Muslim and Palestinians here. The atmosphere of hate is coming from Trump and the Republicans and these people are openly supporting him. Being used by the right to help bring more prejudice and racist policies to their people. Trump gets elected and you can say goodbye to any chance of Palestinian recovery. The Israelis are not going to stop with Gaza. Once it's secured the war with the west bank will begin.
We would instantly transport back into the 1950's. After "animals" "thugs" gets thrown out his z league faux military supporters would be outraged and a lot of people would get killed.
I remember saying at the time of these were black Americans they'd have been shooting immediately. There would have been fucking Blackhawks deployed and a show of force like you've never seen on your life.
If the Jan 6 insurrection had been done by people of color, Trump would have seen to that the few survivors would be severely punished. The rest would have been dumped in a mass grave.
