I blame the success of Wicked for Hollywood deciding that every villain needs an origin story now

This feels like something you'd see in a parody making fun of hollywood movies. A Christmas Carol prequel, really?

It does seem like a parody. Isn't the backstory of Ebenezer Scrooge throwing his life and relationships away for profit? I can see some opportunities for showing how stupid that is, but without the epiphany moment of A Christmas Carol, will he just end the story as a bitter old man?

Or is this just a retelling of the whole story at which point it's yet another remake that doesn't need to be made...

I mean Christmas Carol itself explores his childhood, first love, engagement, ascension to the business world, the break down of his relationship and him choosing money over it, his sister, his extended family, his surrounding social circle and the death of his only friend. What other backstory is there?

What Is this, A 30Rock sketch?

Who is seeing the prequel to a story that is destined to end with our protagonist being an evil old bastard?

And doesn’t the original tale go into his backstory? Christmas Past and all that?

What an empty waste of time and money.

We can all save ourselves the time and money by simply watching the relevant 20 minutes from The Muppets Christmas Carol. Including When Love is Gone, obviously.

They just can't conjure the creativity to make a new story, can they? Just the same old rehashed story over.. and over... and over again

I mean everything good was made from the 1600s to the 1990s. I guess after that our brains stopped being able to create . or more likely the simulation ended in 99.

Or capitalism crushes the ability for creativity to flourish with the whole soul crushing traps of existence. And or has become so selective, with their main aim being money, the actual content it creates being entirely irrelevant to the first aim, unsurprisingly the content is devoid of any charm and is now obviously displaying their only M.O.

So the time period where he neglects friends, family, and loved ones to slowly morphs into a villain? Cuz I think they covered that in the original. Or at least they did the Muppet version which is the only one worth watching.

I know Hollywood is its own thing, but it's so strange to see a movie advertising Depp in it. He seems impossible to work with and after the whole trial I can't imagine it being great for audience good will. Is there really no other actor they could have gone with?

That's not at all the impression I got from the trial.
He seemed more or less exonerated of every accusation. It proved she outright lied about or exaggerated everything. They certainly had a toxic relationship, largely fueled by her issues. He didn't always handle it well, but she seemed the primary instigator in virtually every altercation.

I cant really remember it, seems like they were toxic but looking past him having very clear substance abuse issues and anger issues is difficult. He just did a better job of painting his issues as her fault.

Realistically though it could be either, being with someone like him could make you act out and being the top of the crazy/hot scale is very common in celebrities. Azaelia Banks.

This is the first time I’ve thought that the SAG “no same names” rule wasn’t entirely ridiculous.

Right? After seeing your comment I was on the late comedians imdb page only to realize this movie wasn't listed, which is what made me go look at the movie's page, which is what led me to this other Charlie Murphy.

What are they going for here? Because it looks very openly like "worship / glorify rich old white guys". Surely it's not that simple, right?
