    I went through such roads in the UK, too. Imagine clinging, slowing and stopping to the left side that your left mirror is stuck in the vegetation while a lorry to your right goes warp speed while nearly taking out your right mirror...

    There's a Stephen King short story about a woman obsessed with finding shortcuts who ends up finding a route between two places that is shorter than their distance.

    This picture is how I imagined that road.

    That was my first thought too. I just reread Skeleton Crew a few weeks ago. Mrs. Todd's Shortcut, if anyone's interested. Going through the dark tower series again now and really love how even short stories like Mrs. Todd get tied in.
