Adulthood begins when you realize you can just go and buy a cake for no reason at all.

HEY! WHOA! WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! HANG ON! You can't just BUY one of those, and play with it as an adult........without also inviting ME over to play too! Dude, that's awesome!!!
Hey! Me too! We can make a ramp! Maybe it jumps over a sawdust volcano! I'll just collect the dust as it freely sprinkles over me while my dad is cutting large logs on the saw table. Then we just walk over to Mike's warehouse and buy some totally legal fireworks. Wait, no! We could get hurt! I'll just bring Dad's gasoline tank. Ok the sawdust is from own table saw. But with my engineering degree we may be able to calculate the exact departure angle based on flat speed measurements. This is gonna be fun! My wife can make us sandwiches!...she said no. She wants no part of this. But let's do ramps!
My spouse got me a really nice off road truck/buggy for Christmas, and without fail, every time I go to the park with it, people from toddlers to senior citizens come to watch it for a minute or two, and often middle age dudes come over and ask if they can try it out.
Nobody leaves without a massive grin on their face from a super fast flippy beast of an rc car.
The only people who criticize such things are people who take life way too seriously, and care way too much about how people view them.
The rest of us have fun.
Also I keep wanting a slower rock crawler so I can have fun on the hiking trail.
I just need to make something that flips my trucks over when I don't want to walk 200ft...
I have both an SCX24 (same size as is in this picture) and an SCX18.
I’ve taken my 18 on hiking trails a bit over 3 miles long and not had to change the battery once. Just like you I get stopped, especially by older retirement age dudes, and asked about it.
Highly recommend
When my rock crawlers flip I usually just drive them on their side and then flip them over when they get close.
I'm not sure how to describe it but basically as long as 2 wheels are touching the ground I can almost always drive it back to me or to a convenient curb, log, rock ect and flip it over without touching it at all.
Unfortunately my buggy truck is fairly thin, and as such I've only managed to plant it sideways twice in 7 months.
If I had better parts in it (there's a bunch of upgradeable pieces like the axles, gears, and drive shaft) then I could just put a 4s battery in and use the wheel momentum to flip it, but that's an extra $100-120 or so and i can't really justify that expense while job hunting lol
I don't think it would work with a buggy anyway, it only works with rock crawlers because they have locked diffs.
Not with anywhere near the control as a locking dif, for sure.
I've got a LSdiff on mine and one of the times it was sideways, I managed to get it to wiggle a bit in my direction and then it caught a bit of gravel just right, spun once or twice, and flopped onto its back. I wasn't REALLY trying to control it well, since I was already walking toward it. I'm sure someone with more experience could get it to move where they want it. Again, just not as well as a locking diff
Any way to turn this into an income?
I love cuddly toys. Yes I'm middle aged but I fucking love them so I buy them. I totally approve of this purchase and hope it brings you endless joy
This looks more fun than dull. Is this allowed here? /s
Well done o7
Wait until you find out about the guys putting fpv drone cameras on a little moveable arm in the driver seat of the RC car to get a first person view. Super cool stuff
Good for you!
Reminds me of one of my very few impulse buys.
I'm a typical male. When going to a store, I go straight in, get item, pay & straight out.
Was going to a store early to get something. On my way back to the register, I saw a console and racing wheel set up in front of a big TV. Normally, there would be a swarm of kids around it, and I'm way too mature to be playing games.
But it was early, and no kids, and barely anyone in the store.
I sat down, and 5 minutes later I walked out of the store with the original item I went for, and a complete racing sim setup. I've had years of fun ever since and zero regrets.
I still very rarely impulse buy, but am a fan of "Treat yo self!" Philosophy. You deserve it!
I found an RC crawler for cheap that's a variant of my real 4x4, it has been so much fun.
I was told doing shit like this is helpful to your inner child, you do you
This is why I'm glad no hobby shops are near me. I'm not rich but I have enough to buy anything in there and I might be tempted just to escape the crushing reality of being an adult in 2026. Off to check drone prices.
You need to thank that awesome kid in your brain. He's keeping joy alive for ya :)
I have 4 10th scale crawlers and I'm old. Youre just getting started! Fun has no age limit
When I was in my early 30's I found a discarded RC crawler in the dumpster behind my apartment. I'll tell you that was the best find ever. Hours of entertainment. I'm in my 50's now...I think i need a new one.
... aren't you an adult?
... with spending money! Go ahead buy that big one with all the neat features.
