Family members say the man killed by a U.S. Border Patrol officer in Minneapolis on Saturday was an intensive care nurse at a Department of Veterans Affairs hospital who cared deeply about people and was upset by Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown in his city.

Alex Jeffrey Pretti, 37, was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed getting in adventures with Joule, his beloved Catahoula Leopard dog who also recently died. He had participated in protests following the killing of Renee Good by a U.S. Immigration and Customs officer on Jan. 7.

Pretti was a U.S. citizen, born in Illinois. Like Good, court records showed he had no criminal record and his family said he had never had any interactions with law enforcement beyond a handful of traffic tickets.

In a recent conversation with their son, his parents, who live in Colorado, told him to be careful when protesting.

Alex Pretti was murdered and is the latest in an expanding list of public murders by ICE.

This was a murder. There won’t be an investigation. Justice is denied.

Truly a terrorist. He shouldn't have pointed a Samsung Galaxy 9mm automatic assault gun at Federal officers in an attempt to massacre them.

He shouldn’t have panicked after getting pepper sprayed and beat in the head by numerous police officers. Quit resisting!

Falling on the floor whilst being pistol whipped by that angry mob of 7 gloriously heroic 'federal agents' only proved just how much of an evil immigrant gang affiliated terrorist this law abiding ICU nurse truly was.

Great work my guy, I also pressure the people I know who has these disgusting beliefs, almost lost a 20+ year friendship because I discovered he is a trumpist, and we are Europeans living in Europe. Smh.

I encourage everyone to keep an eye out on Youtube and the like for channels like S2 Underground and to report them when they parrot the admin's obvious lies.

I liked his channel for the radio stuff and occasionally watched wire reports about international events. With recent American events that have popped up on my feed over the last few weeks, he's swan dived into the kool-aid.

Yeah, the way they've been cherry picking clips and editing them leaves no doubt at this point. Something tells me they won't be posting videos about how to sabotage under this administration like they did 4 years ago.

Your experience with people calling out Democrats in your first post may have given you the wrong impression - Lemmy doesn't have much of a right wing problem, but it does have an overabundance of leftists. You'll hear a lot of similar "fuck liberals" comments from them, but from the other end of the spectrum. You'll also find a lot of tankies here - leftists that unfailingly support violent, authoritarian regimes, mostly because they're a country other then the US or EU.

In short, you'll find the political inclinations of users here to be (possibly confusingly) diverse, if you stick around.

Right wing misinformation on Lemmy...? But not Reddit?

Yeah I literally just moved here for the reason I expressed.

    I'm not a damn bot.

I didn't accuse you of being a bot.

But you did ignore my point, which is that reddit is crawling with right wing bullshit and Lemmy isn't at all, but it seems like you implied Lemmy has a lot compared to reddit. Which is bizarre. Especially since you made an account hours ago, you wouldn't have had time to see much if any right wing bullshit.

Sorry I must have not made myself clear at all.

I meant Reddit is crawling with them.

I have no idea about Lemmy as I've been here less than a day, as you said, but it seems normal to me. How Reddit was pre-2016.

    Again, sorry for the misunderstanding.

I'm just going to play it safe and never talk about it again on here from now on.

Erm, what? If you've seen evidence of right wing trolls you should absolutely talk about it and mention specifics. Thing is, I still don't know if you saw such evidence. You're being cagey about it.

I have not seen any on here. Only on Reddit.

I do not understand how this has been misconstrued. I can't look at my original comment as it was removed but let me be clear. I have not seen any on here. At all. I never meant to say I had. There has been some confusion somewhere.

You wrote something like "is there a campaign to fight against misinformation on lemmy? I have been seeing a ton of it."

Edit: exact comment from modlog is "Apologies, slightly off topic but is there a thread for organising action against misinformation on Lemmy? I've come here from Reddit and the amount of right wing misinformation and propaganda is insane. So much floating around unmoderated. Just looking for tips on how to effectively deal with it more than anything (other than abandoning ship!) "

Not sure how that was not supposed to be taken as referring to misinformation on Lemmy.

Sorry! I see where I messed up now.

It should have read "is there a thread on Lemmy for organising action against misinformation (elsewhere on the internet)?

That's what I meant. I'll work on my grammar if I'm going to stick around.

At least Nazis were trained and deliberate. These goons are just incompetent, it's only a matter of time before they shoot a few of their own- which I'm sure they'll try to blame on whoever they're piling on at the time.... Honestly not sure which is worse. Both scenarios are terrible.
