From my reading of social media there are two kinds of neurodivergents: 1) hates showering, most unpleasant experience, sensory overload 2) loves showering, could live in the shower, sometimes exits the shower and realises that they forgot to wash their hair or soap up or something. Only misses their daily shower when they are very busy and can't find an hour in their schedules.

You may be a neurotypical if you:

    • shower each day
    • complete your shower in less than 10 minutes
    • don't forget any of the 1-3 things you are supposed to do in the shower
    • have no strong feelings about showering

I've been known to shower until the hot water runs out. I've been known to fall asleep in the shower. I love showers.

Sleeping in the shower! Do you then wake up when you start gurgling?

If you want a good night's sleep in the shower then get one of those continuous water heaters, or a recirculation shower to save on the water and energy.

    10 minutes

How do you wash in that time? That’s just enough to get wet.

I don’t know how much neurodivergence factors into it, though Im sure it does. Plenty of these sort of people think they only need to shower once every week or two because they don’t smell and usually insist they have “good hygiene” despite that. Some just straight up can’t be bothered. Both types tend to not have very many friends; who would ideally inform them that they stink.

I had a boyfriend that HAD to shower everytime he pooped. He couldn't poop anywhere he wouldn't be able to shower or he would be annoying until we got home. He also had IBS. Lovely time I had

Plenty of people don't start to smell bad 24h after a shower, with or without deodorant. In winter, I'd guess it's actually most people.

I try to shower as infrequently as I can without stinking because it fucks up my skin every single time.

To add: It's a good idea to occasionally check with someone else how you smell, because we notice our own smell less than others.

Yep. I developed eczema and soap/chemicals are not my friend, I will forgo deodorant in the winter and use it lightly during the summer - you'd be surprised how little you really need - but I am checking with people about it regularly. I had a friend tell me I smelled like "outside" which made me realize the crystal deodorant wasn't working right.

Like most signs, this will be ignored by the people it's intended for.

I get it, personal hygiene isn't always a big priority for us nerdy types. But it's reaaaally not hard to do the bare minimum to keep from stinking, guys. Have some consideration for others when emerging from your cave.

When you go to cons you always see these guys who are clearly spending mad cash, but they’re in a ratty t shirt and sweat pants, and they smell like unwashed ass covered in baby powder. You can play magic for 10 hours but you can’t go take a 15 minute shower???

"Hey, Skinx, yer on Door Sniffing Duty tonight."

"Aw, I always get Door Sniffing Duty, make Plug do it, he never does it."

"Plug has allergies, he can't smell so good. You got a good nose."

"You don't need a good nose for these dudes. You can smell Fat Tony from a block away."

    "Speaking of, it's Wednesday."

"Wednesday? OH! Fat Tony always comes in on Wednesday!"

"Yep, you'll be getting a schnozzful of Fat Tony's unique gamey fragrance, before you send him home for his shower. Get at it!"

    "Fuck..."

In the mid 90's I was with a group of union apprentices attending the mandatory four week training at our headquarters in the Midwest. They put us up at a decent hotel in the downtown area. During our stay one year they had some kind of fantasy con. Many of these people were foul smelling. They were not used to being told they couldn't enter the elevator without getting fucked up. Some of my fellow apprentices were how shall we say it. Impulsively violent toward people who smelled like unwashed ass. After all nearly everyone of us would shower once or twice daily due to the job. The con attendees quickly learned how to use the back elevator away from our floor.

It was really kinda sad but the Navy also had a floor for their recruits to stay at while they were being processed in. Many were young women all of legal age with the navy personnel trying but not always succeeding in keeping those ladies away from forty or so young construction workers. One of their main tactics was to encourage the navy recruits to use the back elevator. In forcing those unwashed losers to the back we inflicted them on those recruits.

I’ve spent too much time in unventilated back rooms for Magic tournaments. It was musty.

its because CARD game players: yugioh pokemon, purposely not shower, and smell that way on purpose to distract other players from the game making them more likely to make mistake and lose a game. it has gotten so bad they have to implement the smell ban rule.
