How can I disable this profanity filter? It's getting a bit ridiculous.

When I first joined here, I thought it just censored slurs so I was fine with it.

Now I've come to realize it censors way too much shit and it's getting really annoying seeing "removed" all the time.

It doesn't have to be used exclusively towards women, as long as the usage is still "you are behaving like a woman and being a woman is bad so you are bad". That's what makes it a slur, it denigrates both the target and and the entire group to which the target is being compared.

I disagree that the usage is "you are behaving like a woman", I would say it's more "you are not behaving according to your gender". Men are called it for not being masculine enough, for being perceived as cowardly or weak, while women are called it for not being feminine enough, for speaking up for themselves or rejecting male attention.

i dont think most people associate it with behaving like a woman, at least i dont ever use it like that

if i hit my foot on something and say "you -idontwannagetbanned-!" theres no association with any womanlike behavior lol

same with like an annoying boss fight in a video game, i might call it that, not thinking even for a nanosecond that the behaviour is in any way womanly

i just use it as a more vulgar synonym for "annoying" really. i dont associate women with being annoying nor do i think that being annoying is a female trait. i would hope that most people think the same too but im ready to be proven wrong.

i hear the word relatively often from women who do use it against women too so in my experience theres not much of a case for it being a slur if the hurt group uses it as often or more often than others

You use it to refer to things you can normally dominate that temporarily inconvenience you; that's not the defense you want it to be. Even if that connection doesn't exist in your own mind (and I believe you that it doesn't) it normalizes that usage and contributed to systemic misogyny.

Additionally, I shouldn't have to point out that a group using a slur that normally targets them isn't evidence it's not a slur; I bet you wouldn't use the n-word even though the same metric applies.

your first point is a pretty good one, ill give this a deeper thought and see what conclusion i make on whether to keep using the word or not.

the second point is not as great, i dont ever see a black person calling anyone the hard r. i feel like the "friendly" n word is a different word entirely, even if it has the same origin. but that doesnt matter, ill focus on ur first one and will think about it further
