EDIT : Meme made!

https://lemmy.world/post/49940605/

I kinda want to make a meme based off this comic :

https://natlib.govt.nz/records/22728118

Transcript from the page itself :

A Muslim woman wearing a burka that covers everything except her eyes watches a girl wearing a bikini and sunglasses; the burka-covered woman is interested that the bikini-girl has 'nothing covered but her eyes' and the bikini girl is interested that the burka woman has 'everything covered but her eyes' and each sympathises that the other lives in 'a cruel male-dominated culture!'

I talked with my wife about how Jeri Ryan was upset that Rick Bergman kept pushing for skintight outfits because he's a pervert, but from my perspective, just like how star trek has always been "woke", star trek has always been run by a pervert; Gene Roddenberry was also a fairly lecherous gentleman; and some cast members of TOS were not very happy with the lengths of skirts... which some feminists point out that the miniskirt was a part of the sexual revolution going on at those times.

But I can't quite mesh the two ideas. Having the images be the same doesn't quite get the pervynes being the same in both eras, making them both the bikini clad one and keeping the wording but changing "male dominated culture" with the names of the producer of the era doesn't seem to gel quite well.

Any ideas?

I'm not asking for anyone to photoshop/gimp anything, just seeing if anyone can help guide the meme to crystalise the idea.

EDIT : Maybe it should be the salary meme?

Jeri : I'm sick of these skintight outfits!
Grace : At least you can sit down without showing off your pants
T'pol and Hoshi in decontamination shower : You guys get to wear clothes?

I can't open the original image but this sounds like it would map well on to that meme of two woman looking at eachother in the gym locker

Would probably be a lot of work shopping it but it's immediately recognizable as a format

Hmm.. so more like "I wish I was directed by Gene Rodenberry, Rick Bergman is a pervert" and "I am sick of trying to avoid pantyshots"... but that doesn't fit either cartoon.

EDIT : Maybe the Bernie V Hillary format is better?

    • Jeri And Grace
    • Issue : Perverted producers

-- Jeri : Rick Bergman makes me wear skintight clothes
-- Grace : I am sick of trying to hide my panties

    Seems a bit grim.

    Rick or Gene

Issue : Treating Female Cast members with respect

-- Rick : The goddamn spandex needs to be tighter!
-- Gene : Cut an inch off that skirt, and let's get the camera a little lower please

Here's the cartoon from the first idea.

Oh, thank you. Don't know why it wasn't loading on my device. Yeah that's way exploitable

    Looking forward to seeing it!

No worries, these are banger ideas. This has kind of been on my mind too since my recent TNG rewatch. I couldn't stop thinking about how shitty they always were to Marina Sirtis about her body weight and would be reminded every scene where they had the camera linger on her form which is kind of a lot.

And then why the fuck did Deanna have to get some SciFi variant of SA once per season? Like it happened so often it was kind of stupid. Then again in one of the movies just for good measure. I don't think sexual violence happened to anyone else throughout all of TNG

    thank you

I didn't notice the SA, but they probably were not the ones I randomly saw on TV or during me stepping in on random eps of my wife's Trek marathon.

But... I think it's probably because Troi is the ship's Professional Woman. Her job on the show is to be a woman, she feels emotions, she likes chocolate, her mother comes over to visit... and she gets sexually assaulted.

There are other female cast members, but they have other things going on. Crusher is the doctor, Guinan is the barkeep, Ro is the rebel... Tasha Yar...

I don’t think sexual violence happened to anyone else throughout all of TNG

From what I understand of the anti-drugs(?) ep, Tasha has a serious talk with Wesley about people in her home planet turning to drugs as a way to deal with the impact of the roaming rape gangs that inhabit that planet... or something. So she also counts among the people getting raped.

Also, I did see a few instances of Riker getting close calls when he wasn't giving fully informed consent, when he tried to jailbreak out of a candidate planet and the Dr Alien had her way with him and wouldn't let him escape otherwise, and the brainwashing game was given to him by an alien having sex with him on Risa.

Right, the rape gangs were getting mentioned a lot early on. Ro and Yar were pretty far out of traditional gender roles though. It was actually pretty cool how much the show elevated Ro for rebelling, even if Yar was a bit more of a girlboss. By then we already had Ripley who Yar is kind of a step backward from.

You're RIGHT! The himbo king had his consent bypassed a few times. Good point
