If you create a community, please try and populate it with content. I see a lot of new communities with 0-1 posts from the mod. That's not nearly enough to get people engaged - users are going to see that it's a ghost town and leave.

If you have enough interest to create a community, you probably know something about the subject matter, so PLEASE add some posts (5-10 would be a good start). Maybe some questions to get people talking, even popular reposts from other sites. It sucks shouting into a void, but if you don't do it, everyone else will also be shouting into a void.

Also please consider whether you need to create a community! When there are 100 million users of the site, there may be 1000 people who are interested in the same exact niche tabletop RPG as you, but there are <500,000 users here for now, so you'll be lucky to find 10. Consider creating a thread in a broader community (like boardgames) until you have enough people talking in the thread that it gets messy - then it's time to create a separate community.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

A handful of the decade-based music communities on lemmy.world have been closed by their moderator @ptz@dubvee.org.

Sadly, the reason for this is because PTZ is also known as Admiral Patrick, the creator of the Tesseract Lemmy frontend that was just the center of a great deal of controversy for being found to have a stealth ban list of instances, communities, and users that he did not personally agree with. These bans are forced onto everyone who uses Tesseract, without their knowledge and cannot be turned off. In retaliation for being called out, a lot of the music communities here on lemmy.world were locked and labeled [closed].

In retaliation to that childish spite, I have launched my own music communities on lemmy.today:

You have my word that I will not arbitrarily lock these communities. :)

Have fun!

For fans of ePaper and eInk devices and tech!

This is quite an old community but it's never been advertised here and has been a ghost town for months. But I made 3 posts in it recently and they did well so it seems like there's an appetite for this subject out there.

Antifa Fitness (anarchist.nexus)

!antifa_fitness@anarchist.nexus

Encouragement, workout ideas, and motivation to get and stay fit in order to more effectively resist all of the wrongness in our world.

Rules:

  1. This is an expressly non-toxic space. Users are encouraged to help eachother shape their workouts, but you MUST NOT admonish others for having different fitness goals from your own. You also MUST NOT mask toxicity in the form of positive comments (aka toxic positivity). Everyone is on their own journey and has their own plans and goals. Be respectful and constructive at all times
  2. There will be a monthly challenge thread for users who want to motivate themselves with consensual challenges and competitions. Please be respectful of other people's desires to engage or not engage in these friendly challenges.
  3. Please tag your posts reasonably with square brackets at the start of your post. Examples:
  • [MOTIVATION]: for threads discussing motivators for working out, such as creating generational continuity by increasing fitness to be more present in their children's lives, or for an upcoming march or protest
  • [WORKOUT]: for posts celebrating a recently completed workout
  • [ADVICE]: for threads from OPs looking for ideas and advice
  • [MEAL]: for yummy yummy pictures of a health-oriented meal you put in your tummy

The only reserved tag is [CHALLENGE] which will be used for the monthly challenge thread.

Hello all, Best of Internet Update exists. I know there's a few other similar pages but they seem to have all died out shortly after the first great migration.

This page is for all internet story updates that are good or entertaining. Right now it's all reddit and ask a manager stories because I haven't seen much on Lemmy yet. Feel free to add any you know of.

cross-posted from: https://reddthat.com/post/69664596

A community for sharing news articles, podcasts, videos, etc that are relevant to South Africans.

I often want to share South African news articles and stuff that are actually good insted of the usual buzz-feed style articles that I see floating around on social media.

But I also dont want to turn !southafrica@lemmy.world into one of those national communities with one person posting news articles.

So I made a new community specifically for sharing South African news. That is all.

!historymemes@quokk.au

With the news that the moderator of Piefed.Social's historymemes community will be leaving the Fediverse after Piefed.Social's draconian voting changes, I have made an alternative community that can continue to be moderated. This is something I had wanted to do for a while as .social has some rather questionable leadership but have refrained from doing out of respect for the active community but that is a moot point now.

Please keep politics to a minimum and only that which is directly related to stay at home parenting (for example, parental leave legislation, benefits for SAHP, etc).

!eli5goblins@ttrpg.network

You’ve explained it to a 5-year-old, now explain it to a bunch of small green maniacs!

This is a parody community inspired by other ELI5 communities with a fantasy twist. All questions should be answered as if the person who asked has no idea about our modern world, is more interested in shinies than knowledge and might attack you at any moment.

!strange_activity_investigations@piefed.zip

This community is dedicated to the investigation of "strange" account activity on the Fediverse. We are not investigating malicious actors. There are a lot of good people working hard on that. We are looking into accounts which fall into the uncanny valley. Accounts not marked as bots which act very bot-like with no obvious motive.
