Ya, Kaplan needs to be removed from his admin/mod duties ASAP. He sees lemmy.world has his personal and private property and thinks he can do whatever he wishes. That is not what a community is about.

He is the typical reddit mod that we all hate. That is one of the reasons why we are on lemmy rather than on reddit. And yet, we are letting it happen here again? Fuck no. We need to be on the look out and stop such things as soon as possible, before they become too big to deal with.

Check out Oliver Sacks. He was into motorcycles, he was gay and also a neuroscientist. He has some awesome books.

PS: Martial Arts are hot. Keep doing it.

I don't understand the question, or the distinction.

I think (almost?) all people bond by shared experiences. You make your friends through shared experiences. This shared experience could be many things, such as the love of reading, love of anime, gym, playing the same sport, etc. But it could also be sharing the same space or knowing the same people. If you have absolutely 0 in common, a relationship is very hard.

I have no clue how this would be different between genders.

I disagree with this. You can see in many of his removals that he did not even give a reason, as there is none. Why did he remove the post about Luigi? He is certainly not a politician, nor is he a family member of one, afaik. What about the one of the blood of a backback of an Iranian girl? Is a backpack a politician? Does it represent politics? Are death children politics now?

But more important than that, ALL of the posts that that mod remove had had over 100 comments. If you go to the pics sub now, there are 0 posts left with that many comments. He removed ALL the engagement. As it is, engagement is the one thing that Lemmy needs, to keep it going. That is the #1 thing we need, engagement. And that mod is just removing all of it.

Pathetic. But whatever, I will touch some grass. If people are ok with having so much content and engagement deleted for no good reason, whatever. We are all used to it by now.

Someone on !pics@lemmy.world is (massively) removing posts with no good justification.

    They have removed:

    • Removed Post "Bloody backpack of Iranian girl killed in US-Israeli attack on Iranian elementary school.". This was an image of a bloody backpack. It was well within the rules of the pics community.
    • Removed Post "Lemmy.today is absolutely beautiful" reason: Not a pic. IT WAS A PIC. The reason they gave is a lie. Absolute lie.
    • Removed Post "Talking positively about this person, on reddit, gets you banned.". This was a post about Luigi Mangione. They don't even give a reason for the removal of the post. It was, also, well within the rules of the community.

And now they have removed 2 more posts:

    • Removed Post Donald Trump's Parents. This was a post that had a lot of engagement, with over 100 comments.
    • Removed Post Epstein mural in Sydney, Australia. This was also a post that had a lot of engagement, with over 100 comments as well.

And now they removed another one:

    • Removed Post nothing is out of the ordinary, citizen. After all the other ones got removed, this one managed to get to 50 comments (not sure, but around that?) before being removed..

100 comments is quite a lot on lemmy. Removing such content is absolutely pathetic. Content is the one thing we need on lemmy.

It seems like they just removed any post that had a lot of comments. Any post that was driving engagement, they removed it. I wonder if someone is getting paid by reddit to eliminate engagement? Because this is what it would look like. And after everything we have learned these past few years, it would not be that out of the ordinary. Remember the whole Epstein/Ghislaine stuff and how these "elites" treat their competition....

There is no information on which mod removed those posts, but I am sure it was the same one, and I am sure that if you search for all of his mod actions, you will see many such removals. Mods going power hungry. I expected that to not happen on lemmy, but ya.

EDIT: I found out that the mod who removed those is /u/theprogressivist@lemmy.world. It can be seen here: https://lemmy.world/modlog?page=1&actionType=ModRemovePost&modId=5313819

EDIT2: The mod in question has removed 2 more posts, both with over 100 comments. He is literally removing all the posts that are driving engagement. See here for the removed posts: https://goopics.net/a/5gcjy2dk. What the hell.

EDIT3: And another one was removed, one that had around 50 comments, if I am not mistaken: "nothing is out of the ordinary, citizen".

This is one of the most power hungry mods I have ever seen. Holly fuck.

I tried using matrix yesterday. I really hate to bash open-source decentralized software but.. fucking hell, was it annoying. I tried 1 server/instance (nope.chat) that just wouldn't work. I created my account on the desktop, logged in. But then, when I tried to log in on my android, it woudln't work. I logged out, tried to log in on the desktop again and it wouldn't work. Password/Username incorrect. I use a password manager, so I am sure I was typing things correctly. That pissed me off right from the get go. It was linking me to some other website, and not nope.chat, which is a bit annoying and weird, for the average user, but whatever. I just gave up on that server.

Then, I created an account in another instance/server. Cool, logged in. Worked on desktop, though I had to manually change the server in the element/browser-UI, even when I got linked there from the instance's page. Whatever. I logged in on Android as well, but immediately got a bunch of errors, asking me to reset my account. (?????). Whatever, I reset it and it worked fine.

So now I do have a working account on matrix, but it is so fucking slow and clunky. Fucking hell. I hate this.

On the other hand, I created, around the same time, an XMPP account. SO EASY. SO PERFORMANT. SO FAST. Night and day difference.

Sadly, this community is not as active as I hoped it would be when I created it. We (everyone, but specially lgbtq) should seriously move away from for-profit and corporate social media, but the masses have not yet received the memo.

    Thank you for posting!

Oh ya, asymmetric relationships are horrible. You did good in stopping it. You will feel much better once you let time heal you.

    Good luck brother.

As the other person suggested, look into Grindr. But also know that not everyone is a good person and not everyone is truthful. You should always practice safe sex. Look into PREP and always wear a condom. "Receiving his loads inside" is definitely something you should think twice. I would suggest to not do that, but you do you.

I also have these bouts of depression. They come and go. What works for me is keeping busy. Just doing anything helps me. Just move. Laying in bed is the worst thing to do when that happens. This is my advice to him.

My advice to you is the following: Be there for him. That is all you can do. If you were physically close to each-other, I would suggest to just snuggle/cuddle. Human contact helps. But you are in a long-distance relationship, so that is a no go. Send him voice messages instead of chat? Let him know you like him. Let him know he is important to you. Let him know you are there for him.

Regardless, thank you for caring about him. Compassion, empathy and kindness are the best qualities anyone can have.

I created !wheretopost@lemmy.world because I still find Lemmy a bit confusing. Since there are so many communities across so many servers, I never know where I should be posting certain topics.

The goal of this community is to help people find the right community to post specific content and, by doing that, hopefully, decrease posting friction and increase content.

Please subscribe and help people find the right community!

I know it may not seem like much, but I have had so many instances of content that I wanted to post but ended up just saying"fuck it" because I didn't know where I should be posting it. This friction multiplied by hundreds of people does make the difference!

EDIT: I am looking for 2 (or so) mods for this new community. If you are interested in modding, please let me know. There shouldn't be too much work. Just remove spam, if it ever happens.
