I don't know, but that's kind of cool. It looks like with a driver, it will connect to MS Access. I still have to touch a legacy access database from time to time. Somewhere along the line, Access quit working over a RDP connection for me. I just wrote my own simple front end for it using .net, but the one thing I would like to do is kind of a pain for me to write. I could do it, I just don't want to. lol.

On the other hand, I don't mind getting a license for a good product just to support them, and it looks like the only options they have are subscription based. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I miss the good ol' days.

Anyway, thanks. Just installed the Linux ce version. It connected to MySQL and seems to do all the things I use Workbench for. So far, it's only asked me for my password when I connect to the database the first time!

    I'm just curious here. I use MySql Workbench on Windows and Linux. I am not storing the password in Workbench. On Windows, I click the database I want, enter the password and go about my business. On Linux (Mint), I enter my password...and then it prompts me for my password randomly from there on out. I might use it for fifteen minutes without a prompt. Then, I might get prompted for a password four times in a row. It does this if I start Workbench up as a user or as root.

    Anything obvious I could do to make the Linux version mirror the Windows version a little better in this regards?

    Also, just as an observation, the Linux version of Workbench is definitely inferior to the Windows version. There are all kinds of quirky things going on in the Linux version.

    On Windows, I used to work off of a usb thumb drive for portability. My Logitech mouse, and whole system would randomly dramatically slow down. Moved to Linux Mint. Working off the hard drive I had no problems. I needed some data off that thumb drive yesterday, and fifteen minutes after I plugged it in, random slowdowns just like on my Windows machine. Not going to lie, on Windows, I always blamed it on the Logitech mouse.

    It's offers a syntax similar to a no-build VUE. This gives you a more standard, modern way of doing things that a lot of people already know how to do. And it does it without generating many thousands of files and dependencies just to create a "hello world" page. Most anyone that could figure out VUE code should be able to look at AlpineJS code and figure out what is going on. I could very easily use vanilla JavaScript to do everything. Good luck on you figuring any of it out in a timely manner if you inherited any of the code.

    I'm mostly doing database CRUD with it. I'm really impressed with how easy it is to make a somewhat complex form with a minimal amount of (mostly clean) code.

    That said, I do not really like the inline coding that they push in all the documentation. I much prefer separating the code using Alpine data(). It's much easier to debug.

    No build with AlpineJs is now the future. I've been saying for many years that creating a "hello world" page that generates tens or even hundreds of thousands of files is kind of nuts. Every one of those files could be a security issue.

    This seems to be Linux's Microslop. Not only did they add it to Systemd, they banned users on Reddit for just talking about it. I laughed when Microsoft banned users for using the term Microslop. Not so funny now, I guess.

    Moved to Mint months back. I had to install Win10 in a kvm for a couple of things impossible on Linux. I allocated 16 gig of ram to the kvm. I can't really find anything on how that works, exactly. According to Stacer, I have a consistent 16 gig of ram being used, but that's between a running Win10 kvm and all of my other running Linux programs. I've never seen my system memory use move higher or lower than 16 gig of ram when the vm is running. Again, that's the kvm + normal Linux programs.

    If I allocated 16 gig of ram to the kvm, shouldn't my memory usage be over 16 gig or ram with other Linux programs running?


    About once a week, maybe two weeks, I open a new tab on a browser and it hangs my system. Nothing works but the mouse pointer.

    I initially thought of a memory leak with Firefox, but it will also do it opening a new tab in Chrome.

    The last time it hung up, I think I noticed the virtual machine manager icon was missing from the menu bar. I'm waiting for it to hang up again to verify this.

    Anyone have any thoughts on this?
