Once in a while my algorithm breaks and I get something delightfully weird. This is an instance and I hope you're amused like I was

Please recommend a better place to post if this is inappropriate for the community. Sorta long, and personal

They've been clean for a little over a year. They went out with friends and one of the friends gave my partner a bottle of the thing that causes behavior problems. It makes them the worst type of drunk. They called me mostly sober and I got to hear them go from coherent to passing out over the course of a couple hours and many phone calls and being hung up on many times

I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for. There was nothing I could do other than try to keep them on the phone and engaged but it all spiralled. Swinging from ok to hysterical to angry and back. The angry part is why I can't go get them, along with them getting to the point of absolute unreasonableness and just babbling nonsense. At points they can be combative and my showing up in person would have made everything worse

They are at a safe space where they can sleep it off. At this point I'm not worried they'll come back home angry, but I'm still vigilant for when they get back

I do not blame them because alcoholism and addiction are a lifelong disease, but I'm just not sure how to approach the next time I see them, which is presumably and hopefully in the morning

They have a therapist which they should probably get in touch with. I'm looking for a little direction. Maybe someone's dealt with addiction and relapse could chime in. I know I can't approach it with anger even though inside I'm feeling so angry and betrayed. They quit because the last time they drank, they put their hands on me

After I braved up and put it outside it absolutely flourished!

The leaves curled right up to the bulb, divided itself, and even gave me a few flowers! Unfortunately I didn't get flower pictures, it was a bit hectic. But they grew a tall stalk with unassuming yellow, nodding flowers

It spent the darker, colder days sleeping but now the soil is staying warm through the night it knows it's time to come out. It's got two bulbs now growing and they each have a huge cluster of leaves starting to emerge; I counted at least eight from each. And the signature curling leaf is apparent even though it's just barely sprouting

I posted my plant here last year, and it doesn't exactly count anymore but I wanted to share an update! It is an ex-houseplant; maybe a strong grow light would work for it inside however I feel it really needs a dormancy period to thrive

Long story short: I was able to approach an injured kitty that ran away from everyone else. I became superfriends with the help of tuna and then got it into a carrier to take to a local emergency vet

I wish I was able to adopt it but firstly I have birds and secondly the vet bill would have been massive. So I trusted that the vets will take good care of it and animal services will find it a forever home

The kitty wasn't chipped and I'm pretty sure it was a pet left behind after someone moved out. I'm so upset for the cat who has been badly injured and no one was able to help

Went to an adorable book shop and found these guys. I haven't read Pratchett yet but I feel it'll be right up my alley

I'm pretty sure I see "Small Gods" and "Wyrd Sisters" recommended a lot and I know you can't really go wrong, but of these which would you recommend the most? Since this is what I have I'll read them all eventually

Regardless I'm excited to have gotten physical copies because my library has long wait lists for his books

I was debating bringing the oculus to give whomever a bit of isolation if they need; is there anything specific I'd need to do to use it where there's no internet? I haven't used it enough to be very familiar with most of its abilities

We adults have ps5s. Most likely won't bring one. I've seen portable monitors that people use with a local device; does anyone have experience using one for remote play for the ps5?

And making sure we've got entertainment downloaded to our devices; obviously books and offline/non electronic entertainment will be brought, as well

Since we HAVE to make this trip we're trying to make the most of it by stopping by some state/national parks and other landmarks/pois during which we'll be present. But there's going to be LONG stretches of literally nothing exciting. Like corn fields. Many hours of corn fields. Most days are 6 - 10 hours in the car

I took this video today. I got the arrangement yesterday because when I was at the shop I saw a bumblebee having a visit. It's an arrangement of calibrachoa: purple, yellow, and orange. The bumblebee seems to prefer the purple hands down

I've spent a lot of time looking over videos and sites trying to discover other recorded noises that crows make besides the caw and the rapid click but haven't heard anything similar. Another noise I've heard was a very soft, sweet warbling chatter. It was incredibly charming

But hey, I was incredibly hyped to catch this. Have you heard anything similar?

I noticed the mother bird about a week ago when there would be a bird who flew off every time I left my front door

I try hard to minimize the disturbance to her/them. I only have one door so I try to consolidate my trips out but when I do I try to get a picture of the nest

It's very exciting to me because I've never been in such close proximity to a nest before. I was sure I heard baby bird peeps earlier today and it turns out I was right!!

I've had a bird bath on my balcony consistently over the winter and have started setting out seeds for the resident birds. Every day I get a new visitor or something to marvel at! But I believe having the consistent water source was key to the gal nesting where she did

I originally got this guy in Oct of last year from a plant shop and was in pretty miserable shape:

I left it in my south facing window and it lost those leaves and then shot up a whole bunch of new ones all at once (the ones in the before/after)

I was concerned that they were growing too straight as a result of it not getting enough light. I put the plant in another window that gets direct sun earlier in the day and then I started to see the very tips start to curl

My mom had given me a plant light a couple years ago that I never used so it was the perfect opportunity to set it up in a corner of my kitchen currently unused. Over the course of just a couple days I saw some real differences! These should all be taken about 12 hours apart:

Anyways, the photos aren't great because I didn't expect to see progress, especially none so quickly. So they're not staged well and I think I messed up the formatting because my app was giving me issues uploading more than the first two pics. Also my water just got shut off for emergency maintenance and I was already in the middle of an anxiety episode but I'm absolutely over the moon when I woke up to see those tight curls!

Those leaves grew so tall so quickly I was afraid the lack of bright light would have caused them to just be stretched and the info I found on the internet led me to believe that they were forever doomed to be frizzle fizzle until next growing season

Anyways, that's my plant and one of the joys in my life right now!
