Distros are a matter of taste, and you shouldn‘t judge someone over it. But a bit of friendly fun-poking is alright (e.g. „NixOS user spend all night configuring their PC“). Insults directed directly at a person are never OK. And there are of course distros that are objectively bad (like Ubuntu), and you can criticize their creators, and maybe try to convince the users to choose something else (that‘s where Mint is from, kind of), but you cannot. hate. on. them.

    In the sense that it takes time off your job, yes. But if you have already built your career, have a high-ranking job, and can afford some time off (does gender-affirming surgery count as treatment of an illness?), the impact will be less than if you went into the market as a woman from the beginning.

    I know, the OOP and everyone in the comments said exactly that, and thought it was cute. Although regarding the career disadvantages, that absolutely depends on when in life you transition. Remember, not everyone is out at 20 years old. Some might take a few decades more.

    Regarding the „cis fems“ (no iOS, I don‘t want to type cos), cis (here) is simply the opposite of trans (across). There are reports of cis people being insulted by the term, but in my view, they have similar credibility to „I don‘t have pronouns, pronouns boy!!11!“

    There was a Reddit comment (I think?) once where someone said their grandma believed trans women were women, because nobody would voluntarily put the societal hardships of being a woman upon themselves.

    The ministry has also asked the European Commission whether Cyprus could issue two different versions of its ID cards, one with parents‘ names and one without, allowing citizens to choose.

    While Brussels said EU rules do not prohibit two versions, it warned that doing so is not encouraged, as it could complicate border checks and reduce uniformity. Even so, the Interior Ministry says it is exploring the option after receiving an initial indication from the contractor that it is technically possible.

    It's these two gems, specifically. I can build them on my local machine, and nix copy them to the server, but building them directly on the server always fails with curl: (6) Could not resolve host: rubygems.org.

    Why is the TPM so slow on boot? (feddit.org)
     

    I just found out about systemd-analyze, and it shows that the 5 slowest devices are all the TPM. Why is that, and can I do anything about it? I do actually use the TPM for disk encryption and Measured Boot, and can't simply disable it. My host is a ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 AMD, and I run NixOS with this configuration.
