For sure. The day I can’t own my video card is the day I’m done gaming. I had a lot of good years and a great run. I’m fully uninterested in supporting any industry that removes your ability to own your own hardware or software and even less interested in supporting one that is doing it to appease the ai overlords.

    Yeah this is their goal. Subscription everything. Also they don’t want gpus in your hands and we will see them more regulated than assault weapons - or some sort of gentleman’s agreement where they are generally unavailable to the public. Writing is on the wall because if you can run quality ai locally the powers that be suddenly lose a trillion or two overnight.

    FWIW I had to pay the ransom once and it worked fine they gave the password over and even bargained the price down and also fucked up because crypto fees so didn’t have the ability to send the actual full amount and they were chill.

    Minus the whole being held for ransom they were probably more consumer friendly than the average large corporation.
