For example, if you invented a new way to do internal scans of people, before you can even test it on humans you would have done extensive testing on animals to know what works, what doesn't, and what gives them cancer, and have done the modelling to have a strong understanding on if it is safe with humans.

Nobody would tolerate a scanner that gave people cancer, oops
