Been a while but since this post I've actually had to get a spare part and had no trouble, years after launch
Thanks for the alt text, it's appreciated
Unfortunately the principle of degressive proportionality of votes per country to population of country is enshrined in EU law. It's free to interpret that principle as it wishes but it can't do away with it. My favourite proposal got axed in the 2010s: it would have given citizens two votes, one for a national list and one for a transnational list - I think the idea was that 75% of seats would be filled by winners of national lists and 25% by those of transnational lists. Unfortunately it died along with many other proposed reforms.
Hey, so I looked it up again and you're not actually dumb. Grizzlys and Kodiaks are sub-species, so when I said they aren't species that was only half true.
However, only the first part is capitalised, so it's Grizzly bear and Kodiak bear, maybe because bear is the species and Grizzly/Kodiak isn't.
ah, thanks!
Yes, but before 2000 it was used sparsely and in a dramatically different context than today. I suggest reading the Wikipedia page for "Normie (slang)".
Well I don't think that's inherent to humanity or humanism. I agree though that humanity isn't a value in of itself, because if we accept that it is, stripping someone of that humanity is enough to denigrate and mistreat them. I also see the colonialist baggage that humanist philosophy continues to carry to this day. If we'd ever manage to establish contact with nonhumans, I'd definitely be on the lookout for anyone who suddenly starts talking about progressivism and "humanist values".

Well, I think that's kinda the point of the OOP. Species aren't supposed to be anything special. By capitalising the names of alien species we're elevating them to be synonymous with culture, even though it's impossible for any species to have a monoculture. We're monolithising a (fictional alien) species.
By the way, Grizzly bear and Kodiak bear aren't species either. They're both brown bears (ursos arctos).
Well, you said species. German Shepherd isn't a species. The species is dog (canis familiaris).
