I didn't really intend "plagiarism" to convey my opinion (which is that the AI companies can get fucked), but more as a neutral term to mean Chinese companies are copying to make cheaper models, as asserted by the video

    • China is good at compressing the existing models by stealing the answers they give you to make models that have equivalent performance that are way cheaper (plagiarism)
    • shares a bunch of clips of Ed Zitron repeating a lot of the things he said over the last six months about there not being a path to profitability for American AI companies
    • the bond market looks similar to how it did back before 2008

    Cory Doctorow and Ed Zitron have been yelling about the bubble for a couple years now. I know it's true, but when can it burst 😭 I'm ready for the bandaid to be ripped off. If it's coming, and the consequences are unavoidable, let's get it over with. If there's some way to vote for legislators who can minimize the damage, let's do that. Otherwise, it seems like we're in purgatory, waiting for the inevitable collapse

    Why bother with the hiring process at all anymore, it seems. May as well just pick names out of a hat.

    I work as a software developer and have had to hire for several positions in the last couple years. The process was not easy before AI, and now it's even harder to find candidates that will even TALK to you—person to person (over web video chat)—without filtering every question through an AI "coach". I want to see if you're going to be a good human to work wirh, not that you can read from a teleprompter. Not to mention the obvious cheating when it comes to the code part of the interview process. If you can't write a basic couple of classes and functions, why would I let you set an LLM loose on the codebase?

    Guess that's a bit of a tangiental rant.
