I would really like to hope that someday we can do better than Obama. Being the best president in recent memory isn't an amazingly high bar and I'd really like to see a world where we have something better.

Especially with respect to foreign policy. And I know many folks don't connect with why that's a big deal, but one of my closest friends is Coptic and her people were targeted for ethnic cleansing by a militant faction in Egypt after Obama backed them, because our favorite foreign policy in the US is to back some militant group anytime what the government of a region is doing is even mildly inconvenient to us.

If you remember the men that Isis executed on the beach in video, in the first like beheading video that was a thing ages ago- those men were Copts. My friend has community members she considered family who are dead now back in Egypt. If I remember right she said the population dropped from like 15% of Egypt to 5% in a span of a handful of years.

The toll of horrifying american foreign policy is not just an abstract bogeyman leftist bring up to trash politicians you like, they have actual death tolls and leave behind people who are mourning. Its not even good foreign policy either, we're radicalized half the world to hate our guts, which as it turns out is not the most geopolitically advantageous.

The only reason they stay so small in captivity is because they produce a hormone that stunts growth- this is supposed to give them a competive advantage over other goldfish, and help the collective population survive if they're in a small body of water where resources are limited. This can and does happen in nature, but a bowl or even moderately sized tank takes that to a pretty significant extreme compared to what "limited space and resources" might look like in a sectioned off area of even a small pond

If we're taking care of animals and accepting responsibility for their wellbeing I think its fair to say we really ought to provide them with reasonable conditions and not just saddle them with less than that because they are hardy enough to survive those suboptimal conditions

Race play refers to kink dynamics where themes around race are the basis of the sexual interaction, or a component, often involving power dynamics around race

I'm speaking mostly as someone who's part of the kink community and for whom kink/bdsm play a role in identity, so I may have a more narrow interpretation of it than some, but if you look up the definition I think you'll find it generally refers to something more specific than just finding people who are aesthetically different from you to be attractive

Much of kink is people playing with the things that feel heavy to them in ways that push their buttons.

Race and the dynamics around it are a heavy thing that we internalize as part of our social conditioning, and for some people they have a desire to play with it.

Personally I have no interest, and its important for people to remember that the heavy things they like to play with are difficult subjects and to treat them with care (often people do not adequately engage with why raceplay is so heavy, and then engage with others in a shitty way as a result. At which point it is not play, just racism). But as long as folks treat the subject with the appropriate respect and sensitivity until they've negotiated a dynamic and then stay within what's negotiated I see it as being similar to all the other ways folks like to play with the things that are heavy to them. Like consentual nonconsent, where people roleplay nonconsentual sex, or forced feminization as a way of playing with the harmful way men are measured against a metric of masculinity and punished for failing by comparing them to women as degradation.

But then, I'm white, so folks actually impacted by the heaviness of the subject may feel differently, and its important to listen to people actually impacted by something. In the kink community in my area it crops up as a point of contention periodically.
