Infinite content*

*Some content is substantial, educational, well reasoned and considered, capable of causing you to question your perspectives and maybe become a better or more well rounded person. Some content is fast food for your brain, all fat and salt and flash and rage bait and opinion without fact, nothing that stays with you or worth considering for more than the time its in front of your nose.

Unironically, people (including me) get too picky when there's effectively infinite choices. Instead of settling for something that meets most of their interests, the task becomes finding the perfect thing for that exact moment, which basically nothing will fit.

An early episode of the Fairly Oddparents had Timmy go back in time and talk to his parents when they were kids.

"In the future, there will be 500 TV channels..." "Far out!" "But nothing to watch." "NOOOOO!!!"

Maybe we'd be happier with no content.

    This reality sucks.

You can call people out for doomscrolling, but then . . . .

did calling people out for smoking stop people from smoking?

did banning drunk driving stop people from driving drunk?

so calling out this infinite content wasteland, what can it do, what's the point if it stops almost no one?

did calling people out for smoking stop people from smoking?

Kinda. Also banning them from the good chairs in restaurants and stopping tobacco companies from doing publicity.

did banning drunk driving stop people from driving drunk?

It did reduce drinking by a lot.

yeah, those were not the best examples, but it's like, why do people drive drunk? Why do people smoke? Why do people scroll hopelessly into the void hoping to feel okay in super short bursts?

I just think, I want to live where nobody drunk drives, nobody smokes, nobody doomscrolls . . . . I just hate it.
