What music albums or EPs released in the last ~20 years are way less popular than they should be?

Anything with over a million listens is probably already too popular for the purposes of this question. Looking for stuff that never got much air play, but is really excellent.

This is a killer French instrumental hip-hop album that has stuck with me super hard over the last decade.

    Minus the Bear - Omni

From distant memory a track was used in an obscure fixed gear cycling documentary I caught & I looked them up from that. Not my usual bag at all but I loved the electronic sounds mixed with guitars. They're certainly talented, singer has a velvet smooth voice & they probably should have gained a far wider audience

    OK by Mr Bruce.

The whole thing is a very emotional journey. It starts off with anti-capitalist hyperpop and ends with an ode to both his deceased twin and his deceased band mate, and more. The whole thing has so much raw emotion and heart. Well worth a listen.

Too Much Not Enough by Dadi Freyr

Basically a europop album of love songs to his wife and kids. With some very fun very relatable songs about FOMO and imposter syndrome and such mixed in.

An epic power metal band, surpassed only by Rhapsody (of Fire) themselves. Unfortunately, they have left the western shores. 😓

    Mdou Moctar - Afrique Victime

Truly otherworldly electric guitar. He’s a generational talent.

Many come to mind, but it really depends on what kind of music you like: Voyager by Blueshift

    Mesma by Deadlights

    The Uncanny Valley by Deadlights

Valley of Kings by The Wise Man's Fear

    Connecticut Casual by Apathy

I could go on, but my personal views of what should be popular may not line up with yours or others'.

  • Holding hands with jamie by gilla band. Really all their stuff and most post-punk. DITZ is pretty great too.

This is one of my favourites, and criminally underrated. Mid-tempo ambient electronic beats.

One of my favourite newer bands, the Bobby Lees! This album, Bellevue, is my favourite by far.

Worth a listen if you like punk-ish stuff

    Freighter - The Den

Definitely not gonna tickle everyone's pickle. Heard it discribed as if the offspring swallowed a couple of math rock/metal bands. Not completely incorrect.
