I'm Australian, so not from the US (had lived there briefly though) but that's not true. The US is self sufficient in Oil and Gas at least, they literally don't care. Their petro industries are making money hand over foot selling into the international market as are their peteo infrastructure companies.

The US is also working hard to steal Venezuela's oil and while it is shitty oil, it is one of the biggest reserves on the planet.

Here in Australia, our government wants to move off fossil fuels.

Once again that's not true at all, we are overly reliant on diesel more so then many developed countries because we're too stupid to build electric railways to move shit around (laughingly we just cancelled the new inland rail and it never went to Brisbane port anyway) .

We're overly reliant on aviation fuel for the same reason, we're stupid, we're a big empty country so it takes lots of energy to stupidly move stuff around which is perfect for trains, we do it in the most stupid way possible (trucks and planes)

The idiot Qld government has fast tracked a new oil field at Taroom and plan to build more refineries after we just finished closing refineries. New oil and gas licenses have been issued for Bass Strait and the massive gas fields off the WA coast are all going ahead.

The renewables you are talking about mean nothing much in terms of self suffiency because we have all the coal in the world and could have burned it for hundreds of years, we still export lots and lots of it. As a side note, Tassie has had hydro dams destroying the biosphere for 150 years.

We barely make a thing, so instead of building a railway between North WA and central QLD to ship coal and iron ore back and forward and then make steel, we ship iron ore and coal to China (who are supposedly our enemy ffs) they burn the coal and we buy steel off them. Once again relying on vast quantities of bunker fuel (shitty diesel) to move the ships around to do this dumb shit.

On top of all of that, the political party leading in the poles is ONP, who are all climate deniers and are committed to undoing the small token renewable energy changes we've made and aligning with other conservative nutjob parties in ascendency around the world to destroy civilisation.
