Depends on the consumption, I think. Amateur porn I think is likely to give a better view of sex in general. But the stuff you see on the front page of whatever site is... Kinda revolting (in my opinion of course). To expand on that, the male gaze that is present on some of the videos on the front pages is a very demeaning gaze, it seems. Slapping and choking seem to have become a thing all of the sudden. Not to mention any number of women looking like they're choking and gagging while doing oral.

Granted, maybe I'm a bit of a prude. I am also gay af and have come to resent the male gaze in a large number of ways. Not to mention the seeming rise in hatred for women in general, it makes that sort of porn just gross. (Sorry if I've yucked anyone's yum)

Amateur is the best stuff and I agree with pretty much everything you said, except:

choking seem to have become a thing all of the sudden.

This is something I really enjoy a lot so I like seeing it in porn 🫣

Not to mention any number of women looking like they're choking and gagging while doing oral.

But this is one that I also find gross, not sexy at all, and will immediately switch to something else.

And I don’t feel like you really yucked anyone’s yum 💚

Depends on the person, how and when they are exposed to porn, the kind of porn they are exposed to. There’s too many factors to give a good answer to this question.

It increases awareness of what you may like/want to do and what you may not during the intimacy time based on experience of others.

I think this is the kind of question better suited for science than for the court of public opinion.

There's science around neuroplasticity that could explain this. I trust the newer studies over the older ones, since we've never before had access to so much different porn in all of human history. They all seem to say the same thing in different ways: that it's impossible to consume media without it affecting you in some way.

But for me, personally? Depends on the porn. I could never really get into the most popular videos because they're so degrading toward women. Being reminded of systemic violence and oppression is not what I need to get off. I wouldn't completely trust any guy who's into that kind of cock-choking, ass-ramming thing either.

I find the amateur stuff a little better because a lot of it is just attractive, voyeuristic couples having consentual sex. I can't help but feel happy for them and feel like they want me to be happy for them. It's sexily wholesome.

Then again, I have a few, very specific, unusual fetishes, and for that I love having access to the plethora of debauchery the internet provides. It's probably messing with my head in that my fantasies used to be vanilla and now they're not, but I'm not concerned since none of it is painful or non-consensual. The biggest problem would be finding a partner who's into the same things.

As others have pointed out amateur porn, between people who are into each other and are doing it for fun, is so much better than the grueling, competitive performances of the pros

Also the fact that there are so many kids/adolescents etc thinking the pro stuff is a realistic experience of sex is alarming
