Kids pretty old to not tell them about your past.

Do parents tell their kids about their pasts like that?

Not in my experience. I've pieced some things together, but unless I directly asked or it was relevant like medical history, my parents don't really talk about their childhoods.

Your dad not being your biological father is medically relevant. Not saying the kid was unaware of that though.

Nothing in this comic necessarily implies that the dad isn't the kid's biological parent, though.

Maybe the Mom is trans as well, and Dad birthed their child? Or maybe it's a gay couple, and the kid has two Dads who are the biological parents? Just because Dad has different plumbing doesn't necessarily mean he isn't a bio-parent.

Usually not, maybe later, shame and whatnot (substitute drug use for a realistic comparison).

ETA I did tell (feel free to guess what, you're probably wrong) when my kid hit the twenties, and gave relevant hints along the way so it wasn't a surprise, which were not delved into by kiddo by their choice. But it's a personal choice (medical issues aside) and extremely personal in it's implementation and down to cases. This is personal morals, not societal ethics.

Back off (not OP, reasonable query, just everyone, not your business and it shouldn't be, unless there's harm, sensitive stuff that takes careful handling, this is one of the reasons why privacy should be a right).

Many will make mistakes here, and that's OK if done in good faith. time will heal. If you're a bigoted ahole (either generation) maybe less so, but even that can happen, give it a chance.

My brother in law didn't tell his little brother that he's trans and he was too young (and autistic) to remember him as a girl. He was told a couple months ago because he's older now

they still have old family photos around the house and he never connected the dots that a girl just disappeared and a man appeared in its place lol

They may learn stuff about drugs somewhere, its not usually in the classroom.

Better to have a conversation about it in the house and give your child the information to have a better understanding.

    At least that's my opinion.

I too am worried about my children overdosing on HRT and becoming addicts.

Remember kids HRT can completely change who you are, one day you’ll wake up, look in the mirror and see a completely different person looking back at you. Is that really what you want to happen?

I can't be the only one who showered with their dad.

I (female) remember bathing with my little brother. I was maybe 3 or 4 years old (he's a year and a half younger than me), and was probably expected not to remember anything from that age.

Childhood amnesia doesn't come for everyone, though, as I have several memories from toddlerhood. I remember one time trying to figure out where I peed from, since my brothers' parts were so obvious. When I told my mom, "I found the hole!" she told me not to look down there. Guess it's okay to see penises but god forbid a girl learn about her own body.

Wait oh you mean you've seen your dad's genitals.

While I never showered with my dad or mum, my parents were never ashamed of their bodies and ran around the house naked all the time so I've seen my dad's too. I didn't closely inspect them though so for all I know they might be surgically constructed.

I guess I had a lot of dick questions growing up and also having a dick myself got the foreskin talk and associated instructions. Obviously this is all pre pre teen before it gets weird

Okay but a trans man could answer those questions as well, no? But I suppose that might be when the topic of past surgery could've come up for the dad and kid in the comic.

Any guardian could really, just affects the example they'd use I guess.

Anyway I'm shocked to picture a kid just... not questioning what genitals are all about.

I just have to remember it's a fun comic about a hypothetical situation.

How do you mean, "question what genitals are all about"? He just didn't know his dad used to have a vagina (or still has one, I did invent the part where he may have had bottom surgery). That doesn't mean anything about whatever else he might know or not know. I think I'm confused about what you're confused about? 😅

Ah the missing piece is I forgot about bottom surgery. I didn't actually... know dudes did that too 🫣

    Well now you know :D

I actually looked up whether it would've been possible for my dad to have had surgery before I was born or even old enough to be aware of him being "male" and it's been a thing MUCH longer than I thought, so we both learnt something. Anyway, not beating those allegations, dad. (j/k he's very clearly cis)

Not every dysphoric person is always frowning. There's plenty of them with "Harold hide the pain" mentality. I get that this is an illustration but it's reinforcing a stereotype.

I didn't learn my mom was married one more time than I thought until I was like, 19.
