Meta has been granted a patent outlining an AI system capable of simulating a user’s activity on social media to post after their death.

Some fucked up shit.

Ok , that’s it. I think just leaving my account dormant isn’t enough. Deleting it is the only way. This makes me want to throw up

Zombie data mining shitposters will one day be the ultimate fate of all Web 2.0 users.

Your ability to accumulate data doesn’t have to die with you. Your friends and relatives can be spammed with garbage from you even beyond the grave.

Mikoshi was even housed in orbital data centers. How prescient is Pondsmith?

Ehhh, the idea predates Cyberpunk pretty well. Digital immortality was a theme in some sci-fi going all the way back to the 50s with Asimov's "The Last Question" (though that was more Matrix-style consciousness upload).

Awhile back someone on here suggested maybe we’re trying to implement all of the fictional dystopias at the same time, so per the theory it might be because of Black Mirror or that podcast that we’re doing this.

This was posted before and I'll say it again: if you want to shitpost from beyond the grave you do it your god damned self.

I'm assuming this is something someone who plans to die someday might opt into or even be asked to pay for as a posthumous product/service? To feed their living ego, knowing that their AI mockingbird will keep their social media persona "alive" indefinitely?

Just like in the famous book "Don't create the torment nexus" — Bravo!

    Who would want this?

Not only is that a shit idea but it also way to trivial to be a patent. Just one more example how broken the patent system is.

What if I am still living but just don't login to my fbook? My friends might mistake me for social? It seems likely to misrepresent me too.
