Just make it so normal that people accept it.

And for others they can say "he's joking, like he was always joking"

Pretty much.

Anyone with half a brain cell knows that he is a pathological liar. And even worse than being a pathological liar, he's a pathological "truth bender". At no point is he lying, and at no point is he ever telling the truth. This gives him a method to worm his way out of any verbal snafu he found himself in. He learned it by emulating his sociopathic father, and he taught his children the same trick.

Are you sure trump isn't also a sociopath? He doesn't care if his actions kill people, or hurt others, really unless it hurts him personally, he doesn't give a shit about anything else.

That sounds like textbook sociopath to me.

We could spend all day talking about Trump being a sociopath. I've only got so much time on this Earth.

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginningless time, darkness thrives in the void, but always yields to purifying light.

In the era before the Avatar, we bent not the elements, but the truth within ourselves. To bend another's truth, your own spirit must be unbendable, or you will be corrupted and destroyed.

One day is all it takes for a dictator to destroy a democracy...

In that case, let's hope he's an absolutely incompetent idiot who will fail fast and spectacularly or an old guy who will die fast, so that when he's gone people all agree that this wasn't a great political experiment and all join in together to rebuild the political system much better than before.

When has the death of a dictator by old age ever defaulted back to democracy? There's a lot of people helping him, I'm sure more than a handful are eager to step into his shoes.

He doesn’t need to normalize it. Anyone demented enough to still support him wants him to be a dictator. The only difference is whether they can admit that to themselves or not.

I feel like saying you'll only be a dictator on day one is just saying that a dictator doesn't abdicate power, and a dictator on day one is always a dictator until death.

Not always, but whenever we did the "lets put the dictator on a remote island" or similar thing, they came back, with a vengeance.

It depends on the island. Napoleon died on a remote island. It took a few tries though.

    Well no, you misunderstood.

He's only a dictator on day one.

On day two and thereafter, he's the Supreme Leader.

Basically he's been publicly accused of being a fascist (he is) and a wannabe dictator (he is) so many times in the media, that it's starting to lose all meaning. He knows that if you repeat a lie enough times it becomes the new truth, so he's just word salading his way through to next November. None of his supporters care, and nobody who has been anti-Trump is surprised.

Sean Hannity: "You're not going to be a dictator, are you?"

Donald Trump: " No, no no, other than day 1."

I honestly wish it was as hands down as that. What he said appeals to exactly the kind of people it was directed at....and there are so SO many of those people out there. Majority? I don't know; and that in itself is a problem....it should be absolutely obvious that a significant majority of people aren't aligned with him. But its not.

I'll betcha this ends up working to his advantage somehow.

fucking depressed myself with my own comment. I'm going to go take an Ace Ventura style shower

Yes, and the strategy is basically: the courts/activists/army didn't let me do what I needed to do, so I'll have to extend my dictatorship until it's sorted. Then it never gets sorted.
