Replacing a gravel bike front fork (lemmy.world)

I am looking for some advice on how to go about finding replacement front fork for my gravel bike. I bought my bike second hand and it was already a few years old at the time I believe which might explain why it is hard to come by a replacement part. The bike in question is a Fuji sportif le one.0.

I am looking for a fork which:

  • has a steerer length of ~10 3/4 inches
  • has a steerer diam of 1 1/8 inches
  • fits a tapered bearing
  • will fit a 9x100 QR axle
  • has a post mount disc brake interface
  • will fit my 28x700c wheels and tires

I have been put onto this ENVE fork which looks a bit too good to be true.

If anyone has tips for looking for new forks, things that I have missed, or other suggestions I would be all ears. Every time I think I may have found a solution I end up learning something new about why it would not work for me.

    The Enve fork has a steerer tube that tapers from 1 1/8" to 1.5". If the fork from your Fuji is tapered the same way, sounds like a match. If your fork has a steerer tube with a constant diameter, then the Enve fork likely won't work. If the fork from your Fuji has an integrated crown race, then you will need to find the right crown race to fit the Enve fork and the headset.

    The question of whether my tube tapers or not has been hard for me to answer. My steerer looks to interface with the bearing at a wider diameter than the steerer is at the top. In saying that though, the tube doesn't taper smoothly...

    Would you call this a "tapered" or "straight" tube? This is effectively a taper I would think.

    OK, now the picture is showing. I'd consider it a tapered fork, and it looks like it has a removable crown race. The Enve fork should be fine. Make sure to get a good compression plug, and only tighten the stem with a torque wrench so you don't ruin your new fork.

    Not sure if you posted a pic or not, I'm not seeing one. A tapered steerer tube transitions from 1 1/8" to 1.5" in the bottom few inches of the steerer tube. Both tapered and straight steerer tubes can be a tiny bit wider at the very bottom inch or so where the crown race is pressed on, or some forks will have a crown race molded into into the bottom of the steerer tube. Either way, measure the diameter of the steerer tube just above the crown race. If it is 28.6mm or 30mm, you have a straight steerer tube. If it is noticeably wider, it is tapered.
