VIC-20 cassette stash - what's worth backing up? (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

I've been going through some of my late father's possessions and found a stash of VIC-20 cassettes. Some are more well known games, while others are more niche, possibly made by local programmers. Like Pet Frog. I can't find that one anywhere! Those I'll definitely extract and upload to archive.org.

What I'm not sure about is some of the utility software. For example, I have cassettes for programmable character set and game graphics editor, loan/mortgage calculator, home inventory, personal finance, VIC typewriter (word processor), space math, biorhythm compatibility, etc.

Are these worth extracting and uploading?

I'd say if you can't find it on archive.org, even if it's niche or obsolete, someone might find it interesting in the future.

    Seconded. Old stuff that seems worthless sometimes turns out to be sorely missed years later when it can no longer be recovered.

    Thirded. In fact, in "a corpus of VIC-20 software", just knowing that the programs were there, were used, their size, how they were implemented, etc might be useful. For sure extract the most interesting-looking stuff first, but if you have time, do as much as you can.
