Flag burning was a big deal in the 60s. I remember calls for a Constitutional amendment gaining traction back in the 90s (maybe 80s?). The controversy was all over the news for some time and the right considered your take on it to be the litmus test of "true American." Trump's reaching decades into the past, for what it currently a non-issue.
