[–] Pantherina@feddit.de 13 points 2 years ago (3 children) Tab groups where natively implemented? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] Bitrot@lemmy.sdf.org 44 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 child) Yes, they worked differently than the way Edge or Chrome do now and were in many ways superior for tab management, much more like Vivaldi’s sessions but more intuitive. I was a heavy user and so am biased. They said “just use an extension!” but it would crash and lose your session (and imo the extension works even worse today). It was really ahead of its time. Few people used it because they didn’t advertise it or make it easily discoverable. You had to know the shortcut already through osmosis or drag the button out of the customize menu. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1221050#c0 permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Pantherina@feddit.de 6 points 2 years ago (2 children) Simple tab groups works better tbh. It uses the features to hide, list and manage tabs. But a native in-line implementation would be best. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] chris@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago I actually prefer Chrome’s tab groups, preferring to have groups visible and one click away. Ideally the user would be able to choose whether to show or hide inactive groups. permalink fedilink source parent [–] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago (1 child) Except it's still not available on mobile permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Pantherina@feddit.de 1 point 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) True. That is an entirely different UI and also underlying browser issue. Mobile does not have Containers or process isolation. permalink fedilink source parent [–] muhyb@programming.dev 6 points 2 years ago (1 child) Closest thing to that feature is this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/panorama-view/ permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Pantherina@feddit.de 5 points 2 years ago (1 child) Very laggy and overcomplicated, but found that too! permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] muhyb@programming.dev 3 points 2 years ago (1 child) Yeah it's kinda laggy but does its job. I guess that was the reason why did they remove it from Firefox, it was slowing things down. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Pantherina@feddit.de 2 points 2 years ago (1 child) Afaik Epiphany has this. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] muhyb@programming.dev 1 point 2 years ago* (1 child) Never used Epiphany as my main browser but it's nice to have it around as an another open-source browser project. Gotta check that feature. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Pantherina@feddit.de 2 points 2 years ago (1 child) I mean, why not use Geckoview? Mozilla is doing something really nice and has the only full fledged browser with actual Addon support. Meanwhile GNOME and KDE have half-baked projects that use engines only really maintained by Google and Apple. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] muhyb@programming.dev 2 points 2 years ago (1 child) Yeah, I don't understand that either. It can be used for something like Electron to run web-like programs but no one does that too. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Pantherina@feddit.de 2 points 2 years ago* Well, Thunderbird does that. Thats it. Seamonkey and how they were all called were before my time. permalink fedilink source parent [–] sugartits@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago Over there!
