I've never done anything to a cow, except once fed one apples, over a fence.

Usually because 1) we force breed cows to keep them constantly pregnant and milking, 2) we bred cows to produce ungodly amounts of milk, 3) we kill the veal at birth so we "have to" milk the cow. So yeah, they suffer so much that some seem to beg to be milked
