Claiming that someone's homophobia is because they are secretly gay is ultimately blaming the gays for said homophobia.

It's also entirely possible that someone is just a hateful piece of shit.

Women can be sexist and nonwhite people can be racist: being a member of a marginalized group unfortunately doesn’t inherently keep someone from perpetuating the discrimination against said group. It’s absolutely true that a lot of, and definitely the majority, of homophobic people are straight, but a lot of the terror-based homophobia stems from projection.

    I get what you're saying.
But usually it's really they are a hateful piece of shit because they are secretly gay. The loudest ones tend to be the most secretly what they are yelling about.

i just don’t believe that that’s actually true, though. most homophobes are just pieces of shit, not secretly gay

… i’m an asshole because i think that homophobes are mostly bad people, not self-hating gay people?

no you're not an asshole. I agree with you that some people are just homophobic pos and not secretly gay. But for this one in particular, if true, it's screaming insecurity rather than homophobia.

Um, I'd argue that it's blaming the people that drive others to subvert their own tendencies, e.g. the gay-is-icky crowd of which the Christian national movement is a subset.

If gay was truly okay, and we didn't have guys who felt pressured to be alpha masc, then no-one would blink twice when a toddler liked flowers and rainbows.
