I think it is very interesting, that because of photography (and later photo editing) the realistic art has indeed lost part of its core value. Now, if you see a fully photorealistic picture, you will assume it is just a photograph, unless you are told the story of, how some artist spend thousands of hours to make it, after perfecting their skills for years. The effort becomes the defining, important thing, not what the result looks like.
