That's standard in Spain and Portugal. No one ever complained.

    I really doubt that - it totally makes sense to not have that. And there will be many cases where children do not want everybody to know who their parents are. They might be the children of some celebrity. Or some known murderer. Or just want to cut the contact with some notoriously difficult parents.

    We (Hungary) have only the mother's maiden name.

    It's one of the data that identifies you:

    • name
    • date and place of birth
    • mother's maiden name
