They spend decades deying the problem to keep burning the planet. Followed by decades of "be careful to not act harshly and damage the economy"-delays to keep burning. Now we are in the "but it's too expensive, just look at the poor industry"-phase. And we are already seeing the beginning of a transition to fascism now to divert the people from the constantly more dire consequences. They will not "realize" anything, because they allready know.
