There are a few scenes that stuck out to me as disturbing in that movie. One was that night, right after the tripods attacked the crowded ferry dock. The family made it out of there to a hill overlooking the bay and we get that wide shot of distant crowds of people below being herded down the hill like frightened cattle. The tripods pick away at them, some try to swim away, while the family on the hill can only hide and watch from the bushes.

The other was when they spent the night in that basement and woke up to soft rain pitter-pattering on the window. It's almost peaceful, only it wasn't rain, it was blood from the animals pureed for terraforming. That moment of realization just felt so tactile and real.
