Dependency is not addiction. You aren't addicted to food or air. What "porn addiction" proponents are trying to convince you of is that any use of porn constitutes an addiction for which the only reasonable treatment is to stop viewing porn entirely. This is a tactic designed to both control and frustrate men to make them easier to manipulate. It's a shame collar put around their necks to leash them. It's not scientifically valid, they know that, and they do not care. Don't mince words with me please. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] endless_nameless@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 child) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_addiction permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago (1 child) So you read it right? So you understand that this doesn't describe the normal human dependency on food? You understand that what they are addicted to is not food itself but some specific foods, because of specific things that eating those foods do for them? I mean, surely you actually read the thing you're throwing in my face and understand how it reinforces what I'm saying. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] endless_nameless@lemmy.world 1 point 2 days ago (1 child) I only pasted a link because I had a feeling you weren't gonna be worth the conversation and I was right permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago Nah, you posted the link like it was a gotcha because you don't understand the subject, you don't know what the article says, and as such you don't have an actual valid point to make. I get the distinction you're trying to make between behavioral addictions and chemical (? I forget the name) ones like alcohol addiction. But behavioral addictions by definition can be almost anything. I'd wager a good portion of us are addicted to our phones, for example. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 days ago (1 child) You may have a point there, but consider this: Absolutely none of the people behind this "porn addiction" meme are qualified professionals in a position to make that distinction. Their disingenuous and manipulative nature is obvious as shit. You can argue about whether or not some form of porn addiction exists all day, but it doesn't matter whether or not it actually exists. They don't care how real it is or isn't. It's a useful tool for them to spread fascism, and that's reason enough to throw it in the garbage. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Zannsolo@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 child) I didn't disagree but that doesn't mean people don't get addicted to porn. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 days ago (1 child) You're right, my opinion doesn't mean people don't get addicted to porn. They did find that people from religious backgrounds called themselves addicts but weren't always actually consuming a lot of porn. I say this as someone who doesn't have an issue with porn or people watching it. I fully agree that Christianity makes way too big a deal about porn and masturbation, but people def have real problems with their porn usage and not because it's morally wrong to look at porn. permalink fedilink source parent
