Would be nice if it didnt require lot of attention. Should fill my stomach Would be nice if I can grow lots of it in a small time.

But the time spent growing food is much more enjoyable than work, so its probably not a fair comparison. I wouldnt say 'a ton of effort' though. Potatoes for example you plant them, water them like any other plant and voila 2kg of potatoes.
