You're far better off just not letting them know who you are period. Whether you're "lying" about your click or not doesn't change the fact that they see all sorts of useful things about you. It's pretty silly not to have a VPN up 95% of the time anyway now since VPN's are so lightweight now. I get 900+mbps on my fiber with proton up.
