There is, apparently, no alternative and this is one of the reasons that the country is abandoning the centre ground and polarising. Will Starmer automatically win against Farage? There's certainly no evidence to suggest that so far. I wouldn't even say Burnham is particularly left wing; maybe against Farage but that's not saying much. Not that being left wing is inherently a vote loser. His polling is worse than Sunak, even worse than Truss. In fact his polling is the worst of any PM on record. If Labour want to be in government next term, they must replace Starmer with time to spare to allow the successor to get some policies through.
