The "while you still can" is the key here. America is a young country that hasn't had to go through a dictatorship. That's exactly what it's happening to them now and they fail to defuse it while it is possible they will go through a regime for the next 20-20. Because if something has taught us history is that no dictator has ever given up on power.

A large percentage of our population has been under dictatorship-like oppression for most/all of our history, including racial minorities, indigenous people, sexual minorities, and pretty much anyone who expresses a view to the left of, say, the CDU in Germany.

You, frankly, don't know what you're talking about.

America is not a young country it has 250 years of continuous legal operation including surviving a civil war and having multiple presidents who have wielded similar authoritarian powers as Trump, but very few people can keep track of that because it’s such an old country and nobody knows history

We’ve had elections through every single war and cycle of corruption for 250 years so if history has taught us anything it’s that we are most likely going to see Trump and co voted out

Look around and find another country that's younger. Germany is the only one and they've been neighbors who take each other's side in fights for a few hundred before then so it's basically a united front.

What? There are dozens and dozens of younger countries. Or do you think they don't count because brown people live there?

South Sudan, for instance, is barely a decade and a half old.
